Hey all. Long time lurker, first time poster. Wanted to add one more data point. I was an R1 waitlist who got admitted R2! Very, very thrilled.

Stats: 3.7 Ivy, 760. 3 years in consulting (at matriculation) with strong career progression. Strong EC leadership during and after college, in politics and community service.

In terms of waitlist follow up, I just sent two updates, one in January and one in February. Both were short, three paragraph notes. I used them to concisely reiterate my interest, update them on my latest career developments, and explain one or two things in my application, all through the lens of what unique contribution I could make to the class.

I've been reticent to post up until now, but I found a great deal of comfort and guidance in these forums over the last six months, so I'm eager to give back. Congrats to the admits - can't wait to see you all in Chicago. Good luck to all the waitlists - I'm living proof there's still hope. Everyone else, keep fighting - the universe will eventually reward you for your determination, it may just take a little more time to see how.
Thanks, motion. I am on the WL too (orig. applied R2). I sent an update 3 days ago with my latest projects and developments at work and expressing my interest in Booth. I have not gotten any sort of response from Booth since then. Did you get a response or confirmation when you e-mailed materials?

No, no confirmation. If I remember correctly, that's stated policy in the waitlist FAQ. So I wouldn't worry about the radio silence on their end.

I got a few dings in R2 at other schools and so now it is time for me to consider whether applying to R3 round of chicago makes sense for me. Even though R3 rounds are notorious for low acceptance, even the low chances may outweigh the one year delay in matriculation for MBA.
Is chicago R3 round acceptance rate lower compared to r1/r2?

I could not make the R2 deadline for chicago due to late start in application process.

Myth 3: It's impossible to be admitted during Round 3.
Booth does in fact accept students in Round 3. Round 2 sees the greatest number of applications and since we fill spots in the program as we progress through the Rounds, there will naturally be fewer spots left for Round 3 applicants. The best advice is to apply when you believe that you can turn in the application that you're most proud of that best reflects your strengths and talents. However, we do encourage our international students to consider applying by Round 2 in an attempt to avoid potential hassles in obtaining a student visa prior to the start of classes.

Unless you believe that your application package is really strong and polished now, don't submit.

I attempted to apply in Round 3 for Fall 2010 and honestly, I am not big fan of Round 3 applications. I often related them to rush decisions or unpreparedness.

Why don't you give yourself a few extra months to improve your candidacy, polish your essays and give Booth the best shot?

Waitlisted, waiting sucks especially beacuse I have to make a decision on other schools and put down my deposit at one of those places while I wait for Booth. Booth is my top choice and just have to keep hoping for good news in the next couple of months. It is frustrating, bcos I put in way more effort in my Booth app than any other school ...

Yale vs. Tuck is a tough decision....

Congrats on the admit! Your profile looks really strong and I wonder why someone like you would not get accepted directly (instead of wl) in R1. Chicago is a great school and I kicked myself for not making the r2 deadline. any reason for not considering other finance schools like W or hbs that are similar to chicago

Thanks. There's much more to applications than stats and profiles... I'm just happy it worked out in the end. Best of luck in your own application, whenever you choose to click submit.

Does anyone know whether they notify any WLers of admit decisions before the R3 deadline? Or do all of the decisions come out at the same time?

Hi All- question for all waitlisters and those who managed to get off the WL- did you communicate your intention to stay on the WL after getting the letter from Booth? Or does Booth automatically assumes, that you are interested to stay on unless informed otherwise. Thanks for your insights!

They assume you intend to stay on unless you take yourself off. That being said, from a strategic standpoint, you should be communicating with them anyways, and part of that should be a brief reiteration of your interest.
