How dare you trash my generic advice :x !!!! haha your right. It is generic but i think it goes double for Tepper. I went out of my way to get in touch with the school and the application gives you space for saying how you did it. I did about the same amount of research for Michigan but could not find the space to fit in how much interaction i had with the Ross Community because of their word limits. It became a part of my app for tepper vs michigan... who knows. Your advise is good also but i have to say the thing everyone says... be yourself.

Haha, no trashing! It's great advice! I visited for Diversity Weekend, and it was the centerpiece of my Why Tepper essay. It was also a touchpoint during my interview. It's really easy to show someone you are invested when you spend 3 days with them. Like you, I'm also applying to Ross, and I've been saving my visit for (hopefully) Super Saturday. I have nowhere near the essay firepower for Why Ross. So again, really good advice. Whether you visit or not, display strong evidence that you're invested in the school.

Definitely true on be yourself. Again, my own words are just generic tips. Have some idea for your evolution and how a school gets you there.

Congrats on your acceptance, btw! GL with Ross and the rest :-D

Thanks! Good luck with Ross and Fuqua as well. I visited and interviewed at Ross (not Super Saturday), let me know if you have any questions. I know the most about Operations (Tauber Institute) at Ross but if I can help I will try! Also, the student ambassadors are amazing. They respond quickly and provide thorough answers.

And decision #1...is a waitlist. It would have been nice to have an admit in 2011 but I think the combination of ranking them #5 in the Consortium and having a less than stellar interview hurt me pretty bad :-/

Awwwww, man  - hang in there, no doubt admits are coming, and I think there's a reasonable amount of movement on the Tepper waitlist.

Interesting to hear the Consortium ranking. I placed them #2 and also wonder if that had an impact.

Let me preface this by saying I really have no idea but I'll take a guess anyway:

Assuming you background is solid and stats are good, Tepper wants you to really care about the school. A lot of schools say this but with 200 students per class you need to make the personal pitch all the more. Who have you contacted? What interaction did you have? That is why their first question is includes the prompt "discuss how you have learned about the school". They realize they are a safety school for a lot of people and although they probably are okay with that to a point, they certainly don't want to feel like it from an applicant. If you are applying to Tepper as a safety school, you have still picked on it for a reason. Something excited you about Tepper, really focus on that and let the enthusiasm flow.

I think explorer's comment about making a personal pitch is great advice for any program with a small class size, whether it's Tepper or Tuck or whatever other small boat.

To that, I would add my own generic piece of advice that I think works well for Tepper: really understand and convey how you simultaneously fit in and stand out at the school. At Tepper, this approach is deceptively simple whether you're a poet or a quant.

If you're a poet, you stand out by mastering the softer, people-based skills, and you fit in by craving the exceptional analytical toolkit that Tepper provides. You're someone that can give a different perspective than the engineering base, and you're probably excited about being a leader/mentor/model in this arena. Sell your personal evolution and curiosity.

If you're a quant, it's the exact opposite. You fit in with strong affinities for Tepper's analytical approaches, but you stand out by recognizing that people are every bit as important as numbers; Tepper's emerging approach to incorporate lessons on leadership and communication are aligned with your evolutionary desires. Own your nerdness, but bring an angle of differentiation.

Hope these mini-frameworks help!

How dare you trash my generic advice :x !!!! haha kidding of course.

you're right. It is generic but i think it goes double for Tepper. I went out of my way to get in touch with the school and the application gives you space for saying how you did it. I did about the same amount of research for Michigan but could not find the space to fit in how much interaction i had with the Ross Community because of their word limits. It became a part of my app for tepper compared to michigan... who knows though. Your advise is good also but i have to say the thing everyone says... be yourself.

Don't put what you think the adcom wants to hear unless they mean something to you. You have reasons you like the school, what are they. For a math ungrad applicant, i liked the analytical component but the business analytics track really stood out as unique mix of math and business. I didn't have generic reasons but very specific reasons I liked tepper and i am enthusiastic about them. That way you are talking about things that are actually meaningful to you AND the adcom wants to hear. You have to be aware of both.

Awesome.. thanx guyz.. well I kinda belong to nerd-kind.. so I think I fit well at Tepper.. but how can I show I stand out ? What specifics can I point out to become a 'poet'? Great advices -keep them coming..

hey guys... I am applying for round 2. I have a doubt in the essays.
Application says that essays should be 2 double spaced pages. What is the font size everyone is following?

guntimanojkrishna: I used a font size of 12, but I do not remember if that was the requirement.

Ravesha: I don't believe you would need to send anything in paper format. I did not send anything in paper format. If you have any questions about specific portions of the application please contact the admissions office. I remember contacting them just before the R2 deadline and they were very prompt and helpful.

Buddy,

You were not awarded any scholarship??
Someone on the forum got 40K which is pretty decent.

I understand that without co-signor International applicants cannot really afford the
super high tuition fees out of their own savings.

All the best for Ross!

I got more or less what you mentioned but how can I bring the rest of money ? it's more than a 100K. It's not a matter of affording but being able to take a loan.

Their loss.

Ross recently said they won't be giving no co signer loans so I dropped the candidacy.

Hey all,

It says in the tepper FAQs that "May I waive the TOEFL/IELTS/PTE?

International students who hold a degree from an institution where the primary language of instruction was English are eligible to waive the TOEFL/IELTS/PTE. Applicants should send a letter requesting the waiver along with their application packet."

When they say send, do they mean email them? Has any international student tried this?

@daffyme: As far as I remember, I did not have to send anything else for TOEFL waiver. I think there is a drop down in the online application where you have to select the reason for the waiver. Others - please correct me if I am wrong.

I had a few programs ask me this. I don't know why Tepper asks it. It did come up during my interview - I think it has to do with fit and if you understand what kind of a school Tepper is.

yeah i put michigan and cornell... which i am applying and I was accepted. I'm not advocating you put in schools but I don't think my schools hurt me. Both of these schools had strengths in operations and consulting so my school selection was consistent and made sense for my goals...

do what makes you feel comfortable though...

As explorer21 noted in the admitted thread, a ton of us applied to Ross. I heard a theory that Tepper's scholarship offers are designed to take students who might otherwise attend Ross or a similar caliber school. On the flip side, I wonder if Tepper is clearly the "best" school you're applying to then maybe there's less incentive for Tepper to throw money at you.
