FROM The Booth Experience: What Program is Best for Me as an Early Career Candidate? (Part 2 of a 3 part series)
Congratulations to all of the Round 1 admits, and good luck to everyone who applied Round 2! A few weeks ago, I posted a few questions I think every early career candidate should ask themselves before applying to an MBA program. As you consider which school is right for an MBA, now is a great … Continue reading What Program is Best for Me as an Early Career Candidate? (Part 2 of a 3 part series) →
FROM The Booth Experience: My message to Class of 2017
The Fall Quarter is over. A quarter during which I enjoyed a Random Walk to China, filled a whole apartment with IKEA furniture, played soccer at the UCLA MBA tournament, won the ‘Hunger Games’ at LEAD, had enough Fireballs at TNDC to keep me warm throughout winter, dressed up as Popeye for the Belgian Halloween … Continue reading My message to Class of 2017 →
FROM The Booth Experience: Excel Monkey’s Journey to the West*
I was born in Shanghai but spent the last two decades of my life in Boston, and consider myself to be pretty stereotypically “East Coast”—pragmatic, competitive, and grumpy. My family, friends and professional network were all in Boston, proud city of the highest college/square mile ratio and home to some other excellent educational institutions. For … Continue reading Excel Monkey’s Journey to the West* →
FROM The Booth Experience: Making it Work: Long Distance Relationships at Booth
Gaining admission into business school is an exciting time that can be accompanied by difficult decisions. For people in relationships, the decision of whether both partners should move to a new city often arises. There are a ton of factors to consider when making this decision (e.g., career goals, immigration constraints, distance) and each couple … Continue reading Making it Work: Long Distance Relationships at Booth →
FROM Booth Admissions Blog: A Brand That I Believe In
|
My path to becoming part of the Chicago Booth team was a bit of a unique one. At this time last year, my then-boyfriend (now fiancé) and I were preparing to uproot ourselves from the life we had built in Washington, D.C. to move to Chicago, embark on new adventures, new career moves, and his dream of obtaining his Chicago Booth MBA. When we visited Booth during the traditional weekend for new admits I was moved by the kindness and humility of the Booth community, not to mention their incredible enthusiasm for the school. The excitement of the student volunteers and staff members made Booth seem like a perfect fit, for both of us. He has become part of the Class of 2016, and I have just begun my new journey as Assistant Director of Admissions. I believe that my status as an MBA partner has provided me with a unique perspective for my role on the admissions team, making the student-facing part of my job significantly easier. I have seen Booth’s values of inquiry and collaboration played out on a daily basis in both my fiancé’s time at Booth and my short time in the Admissions Office. I don’t feel like I need to dance around the topic of the culture here, because I believe in it wholeheartedly. As I see it, you, as a Chicago Booth student, could expect the following: • Rigorous academics that deepen your critical thinking skills and encourage the questioning of ideas that others have long held to be true • Curricular flexibility that focuses on each student’s individual academic goals, rather than making them fit within the confines of a structured curriculum • Extensive networking opportunities that goes far beyond faculty, staff and students • A community that is committed to paying-it-forward, with alumni and second-year students providing instrumental guidance and mentoring to first-year students • A culture that is characterized by collaboration, humility and acceptance, and extends to faculty, staff, alumni and even MBA partners I am a true believer in challenging the status quo and taking yourself outside of your comfort zone, a quality that is so omnipresent here at Booth. I have benefitted from the incredible MBA Partners Club, where I have been able to take advantage of a number ways to both network with other partners and get to know Chicago better. Despite having worked for a business school before, I did not anticipate that I would be this integrated into my fiancé’s experience in the way I have here at Booth. I cannot wait to continue this transformative Booth journey that we have embarked on, and I am excited to work with applicants to Chicago Booth as a recruiter, an evaluator, and the point-person for the waitlist and international student visa process. I look forward to getting to know you better during the admissions process! Kristen |
FROM The Booth Experience: Should My Partner Come With to First Day?
Two years ago, before my First Day, I wasn’t sure why my wife would want to go with to First Day. After all, my wife and I were already living in Chicago and she was working at the University of Chicago Hospital. We felt like we knew the city and we knew the U of … Continue reading Should My Partner Come With to First Day? →
FROM The Booth Experience: Business School: A Family Affair – An Inside Look at the Booth Interview Training Program
The recent sea of suits, ties, and high heels at the Harper Center signals the beginning of another year of internship recruiting on campus. However, before most first years step into the hallowed halls of the interview center, they have already spent countless hours in preparation with the help of second years who have been … Continue reading Business School: A Family Affair – An Inside Look at the Booth Interview Training Program →
FROM The Booth Experience: Winter Break: Patagonia Trek
Oh Booth winter break, how I’ve missed you! Last year, winter break was the glorious reward after a busy first quarter balancing school and summer internship recruiting. But this year as a 2nd year student, it’s a bittersweet reminder that the Booth experience passes by all too quickly and we’re just two short quarters away … Continue reading Winter Break: Patagonia Trek →
FROM Booth Admissions Blog: Update for Waitlist
|
Chicago Booth is lucky to receive applications from more qualified and intelligent applicants than we can accept. For this reason, we utilize our waitlist for those we’d love to have as part of our community, but simply do not have the space for in our class at the moment. To those Round One applicants who have elected to remain on our waitlist, we fully understand the uncertainty you feel, and appreciate your patience and dedication to being at Booth. Below are some things to remember: 1. A waitlist decision is not the Committee’s final decision. One of the greatest things about the admissions process at Chicago Booth is how fluid it is. Our mission is to craft the best class possible, and, as such, we maintain a robust, unranked waitlist of very qualified candidates who we feel could be excellent contributors to the incoming class. Therefore, we continually evaluate applicants’ files throughout each round. 2. The Committee welcomes updates to your application. Consider the submission of any new materials that you feel would strengthen your candidacy, including, but not limited to: an optional video of up to 90 seconds that reiterates your interest in Chicago Booth and why you feel that you would be a good fit for our unique community; additional essays that provide context or clarification for information contained within your application; or employment updates (i.e. recent promotions). Should you choose to submit additional materials to enhance your application, refer to emails you have received from our office for full instructions. Additional submissions for Round One waitlisted applicants must be received by February 9. Your application will get another full review in Round Two that will take into account any supplemental information that you provide. 3.Get to know our community and our students. While we are not able to discuss the specifics of your application with you or explain precisely why you were waitlisted, we do encourage you to find ways connect with our students to help you better determine why Booth would be a good fit for you, and vice-versa. Whether that is through virtual channels like The Booth Experience blog written by students or visiting campus to see the community firsthand, there are many opportunities to connect with us. When your final admissions decisions do arrive, you will feel confident in any choice you make. Please do not hesitate to contact me about the waitlist at [email protected]. All the best, Kristen |
