How "binding" is the Columbia ED acceptance? [#permalink]
I was admitted to Columbia ED, sent them $6k as required, but am still shopping around and submitting a couple R2 apps. I know they asked that I withdraw all other applications, but if I got into HBS I would be pretty compelled to attend.

So aside from eating $6K, are there any tangible problems with bailing on CBS? Yeah it would lower their yield a bit, but they get my money and pick another highly qualified candidate from the pool.

Any thoughts are much appreciated.

Thanks

Just as you said -- they keep the $$ and admit someone off the WL, nothing else they can do.

I think you are doing something against the ED agreement you signed. Though there's no legal action they can seek against you, they may still rescind your offer right now if they find out that you have already submitted R2 applications. I am not making any moral judgment here. But the consequences can be two-folded. If they find out between now and the decisions of your R2 schools, they can definitely rescind your offer. If they, after the R2 result is released, find out the fact that you applied to R2 schools and but didn't get into any, then you risk being expelled anytime during your attendance at CBS. Of course the risks are entirely dependent on their knowledge of your current action.

Hello

I am applying to CBS in R2. I am currently working in a public sector energy consultancy (power, water resources, non conventional energy). How strong is the Energy club at CBS? I know that CBS has a very strong finance program, but how good is energy concentration in CBS?

Thank You!

question about employment and gmat
I heard that for consulting positions, the firms look at your gmat score, what kind of gmat score do we need to be competitive at CBS?

Thank you. Good luck to everyone applying in this round!

Thanks. I got 710. Do I need to retake the GMAT? Or should I work on other aspect of my candidacy to improve my profile?I have already been admitted by CBS.

For people who applied in early/mid October, if we haven't heard anything yet does it look like "Game Over?"

Out of curiosity, is the status of your app still "under review"?

Yes, it says "Your application is under review" It has said this since mid-December but I never got an email about the change. Previously it said "Your application has been received and will be reviewed starting December"

Does anyone know approximately what percent of RD applicants get an interview and about what percent of those are accepted?

I believe the % of applicants interviewed is between 30% - 40%. % of those people who got accepted is between 40% - 50%.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. My guess is the percentages are on the lower side. Last year's overall acceptance rate was 15% but that includes ED, which I imagine is higher. So RD acceptance rate will probably be somewhere around 12%? In that case they probably interview 30-35% and accept about 40% of them.
