Hey all - need some advice. I was accepted in R3 last year (but couldn't finance the MBA). I re-applied this year in R1 and got re-admitted. I didn't get any institutional funding but I've asked to be re-considered for that (a bit of a longshot). I'm still waiting for Wharton and Stanford GSB to come back with R2 decisions but I have to pay the CBS deposit by 10th Feb.
One of my biggest worries as an international (Australian) is getting a job in the US post-graduation (as an Australian I have an easier visa path of E3 vs H1-B) to be able to pay off the massive amount of debt I'll have to take on to self-fund this. I know for a lot of people this is their dream school, but I'm still tossing up whether or not to take this option. For reference, I'm currently at McKinsey as well, which is a big employer of MBAs.
This is a very common question and a very typical situation - I’m only saying it to tell you that you’re not alone.
Congrats on the admit
By the way! I can tell you that business school has always been a risk and it will remain a risk. Finding a job has always been challenging though at some points it may be more or less challenging. Unfortunately I lost my crystal ball so not able to tell you how it will be three years from now.
However, you have a strong brand on your résumé which is what will be evaluated by your future employer so there is a really good chance of you getting an interview invite or at least a response and hopefully you can convert those.
Not sure what else I can really tell you besides the fact that half of your class will not have any kind of financial assistance and will be in the exact same boat, so it’s not like you’re getting a bad deal per se and M7s a pretty notorious for being stingy on their scholarships.... If you’re looking for money, Ross or Fuqua or Darden are a more sure bet. M’7 only offer money in case you have an admit to Stanford Door Orton or Harvard... though very few people choose to drop Harvard.
I guess it would be helpful to know what choices you have 😇
