had my alumni interview today. it was sort of a conversational interview.. not many questions, I asked and answered myself. Only specific question was "ethical dilemma" question.
waitlisted here as well... columbia does not seem to take any additional material. ive visited the campus before, but im thinking about doing it again to reiterate my interest in the program. praz- what's your waitlist strategy? does anyone know how waitlist works for columbia?
they are waitlisting more than giving admit. ugh! i plan to visit the campus again too, as they dont take any new materials,i really am confused how we can tilt the decision in our favor.

praz-- are you emailing your waitlist manager about your campus visit? im wondering if i should notify my waitlist manager/adcom person i spoke to at info session/or both...
Anyone hear anything on RD invites, or should I assume that since I have yet to hear its a ding?

I wouldn't worry. If it was a Ding you would know.. Columbia ding come fast. haha don't worry, it's rolling... they probably just haven't gotten to it. their process goes way into april.
So GB you mean...they have not gotten to it if you submitted it around the deadline date.
It is not a ding if you applied earlier and have not heard from them. I know it is just your opinion but is my assumption valid?

What deadline date? Columbia's deadline is in April. But they ding fast, so they don't like hold all their ding w/o interview. It's rolling. depends how fast they get to it and how many apps the adcom that has your app already have in their queue. I got dinged WAY FAST... no one who applied around me even had an invite yet when I was dinged.
It's not like Booth where dings come last, dings come throughout.
BearStearner, Like you I'm also contemplating a R3 app (Harvard). I'm assuming that you’re going to put a deposit down for either Cornell or Emory before you would hear back from Columbia, if so you have to ask yourself if you get into Columbia are you willing to forfeit the deposit from the other school. If you’re willing to do so then why not send in the app. At worst you will lose the app fee and the time it takes to write the essays and app. If you’re willing/able to lose the deposit on the other school then go for it.

I finished my Columbia essays coupla days ago. Before i ask my recommenders for their letters, is there any point for applying this late?
I just don't wanna waste any more time. I kinda wanted Booth but I didn't get invite so I just wanna a shot at another finance school.

Does anyone know anything about quirky admit/interview policies for Columbia?

Sorry to hear that. Have you applied to Harvard, Stanford, or Wharton? Best of luck.
Do you know which schools are more GMAT intensive versus others?
I heard Cornell used to be that way focusing more on work experience than mere test taking abilities but since the new Admissions Director joined, it is focusing on increasing the GMAT average. Columbia being a finance school is probably GMAT intensive and so is Chicago. Not sure about Kellogg, UCLA, Michigan or Darden? Thoughts?
