Application submitted today, as soon as I got the notification that my second recommender has submitted his app. I should be one of the first RD applications reviewed :)

Yep, came in at 241 words. Wish I could have said more. I'm still not too happy about essay 3 but I think it's time to just take one final look at the application and hit the submit button over the weekend.

I totally believe there's a 570 gmat in the new class but how did you find out info like that??

Anyway, I know it's a bit late to chime in but I personally think that the optional essay is ideally as short as possible since certain members of the Adcom have even said (though perhaps jokingly) that the best way to use it is not to use it at all. I guess that's logical considering that the optional essay is meant to allow applicants to address perceived "weaknesses." Anyway, I think each "weakness" can be addressed in 100 words or less. So if you have 3 weaknesses, no more than 300 words. I think under no circumstances should you have over 500 words though, since that's the length of the shortest essay this year. Ideally though, shorter the better! As for myself, I wrote 161 words to address 2 issues.

And a hearty congratulations to SoniBuBu and HappyBunny and everyone else for their completion. I can't wait for us to watch the admits roll in :P And Solaris, you are wise to take the weekend to check out your essays one more time. At this point, the difference between a 8/29 and 8/31 submission is negligible so you might as well give yourself the chance to find that perfect word choice or perfect transition or perfect new conclusion that'll make your strong essay into a powerful one :)

Hope all's good in the hood for everyone!

Stanford accepted at least one person with a 530 gmat for the Class of 2008 and a 570 gmat for the class of 2009.

That guy must have found the cure for cancer, had it patented, sold the idea to pfizer, and now is getting suited for IP infringement. All the while saving babies and feeding the poor in South Africa.

I feel so behind. Just finished my first draft of Essay #1. I am hoping to submit the completed app by the end of September.

Are these still the recommender questions? If so, what are the recommended word limits for each section? Is there a limit?

1. What is your relationship to, and how long have you known the applicant? Is this person still employed by your organization? If not, when did he/she depart?

2. Please provide a short list of adjectives describing the applicant’s strengths, and please compare the applicant’s performance to that of his or her peers.

3. Please comment on the applicant’s growth during his/her employment with you and on his or her ability to work with others, including superiors, peers, and subordinates.

4. In what ways could the applicant improve professionally? How does he/she accept constructive criticism?

5. Comment on your observations of the applicant’s ethical behavior.

6. What do you think motivates the candidate’s application to the MBA program at Columbia Business School?

7. If you could change one thing about the applicant, what would it be?

8. Are there any other matters which you feel we should know about the applicant?
