This is my first time looking at this thread. I am an ED applicant and got dinged. Only lucky 2 got accepted according to page 1. What's the deal with CBS this year? Too many jobless people walking around Manhattan?

Hi, I am waiting the final decision as my application status changed to completed last monday (12/15). Do you know whether the admission office works these days or they are in vacations? When would you expect they will release my decision?

They're on the website, people!

How did everyone handle the 400 character count for activities? The CBS essays don't provide a lot of room to talk about ECs and 400 characters is very little space for three activities. Did most applicants go beyond the 400 character mark?

I'd like to know the same. When are you all planning on submitting? I would ideally like to get my app in right after the new year.

I'm ready to rock but my recommender, a CBS alum and boss/friend, has been holding me up for about a week.

He's a gamo guy so I'm going to take the GMAT clubs advice and buy him a tie to increase his motivation.

Haha classic. Good luck. I hope both of us get either CBS or Tuck in this final stretch.

Someone on BW Posted that they received close to 4,000 applications last year on the deadline date (more than half of all application volume). I plan to do everything I can to hit submit by January 2nd/3rd at the latest.

that's a great plan. I remember reading somewhere that they read the apps in order of submission...if that's right, then anything you can do to get it in before the deadline date is a good idea.

From what I remember, the app won't let you go beyond 400 characters even if you wanted to. I just listed my ECs with dates and positions held (was less than 400 chars). I expanded on many of my ECs in my essays.

It definitely let's you go beyond 400 chars. When I wrote up the activity section, I decided to write it up in word and then paste it in, not realizing that Columbia asked for 400 chars and not 400 words. So, I had a nice description of the activity, what it entailed etc. When I was doing a final proof read of the app, I realized it said 400 chars and decided to change everything back.

Since they specifically ask for 400 charecters, I would advise you to stay within the limit. It might tick them off, or maybe, the final app they print for review will cut off everything after 400 words.

My final version read something like:

My Position in activity, Activity A, Dates of Involvement
My Position in activity, Activity B, Dates of Involvement
My Position in activity, Activity C, Dates of Involvement
