Thanks a lot ntenzer! I visited Kelley 2 weeks back! I must say I was really impressed... The events on the agenda were very well organized... Every student talked good about the program, the Kelley academies etc. Guess my interview went ok (it was a second year student again who interviewed me and later put me in touch with a couple of more 2nd yr guys frm SCM concentration). I have already submitted my application and now i am just eagerly waiting on my admission decision:) But thanks again for your kind gesture... I will probably get in touch with you if i do pull of an admit from Kelley:)

Hey SalarymanJ,

Could you please share your interview experience from last year? Do you know what went wrong in the interview?

-G

well I thought my interview went really good last year. I also called them last June to see what I need to improve in my application and there answer was pretty much nothing. They said my interview was great so I don't think that was the problem. I think the bigger problem for me was my career/education background. Darden carefully constructs their learning teams so that there is a member on every team that has a strength in an area like finance, accounting, etc. I am an engineer and so they are only so many spots for the guy/girl that has no business specialty. Darden interviews are great. They are very relaxed and it is more like having a conversation then having an interview.

Thank you salaryman, glad to hear it! Quick question, were you WL'd last year? Thanks!

Yes I was on the waitlist all the way until the end.

Congrats SalarymanJ! I hope you will be successful this year!

By the way, can you please share how you have presented yourself to be a stronger candidate through the application? Darden did not specifically ask for a reapp essay. By the way, I'm also a R1 reapp here but have not received any interview invite :(

And I noticed that the status of my online application is now blank. Does anybody experience this as well?

I did a few things that I think helped my application. I got a promotion at work and started managing a small team which is reflected on my resume. I also have been and am currently taking classes at my university in all the business basics. I think I mentioned the classes in a small notes section since only a few are on my transcript at this point. Other then that I didn't change much. My essays were probably the same quality level as last year, though I did pick a unique example for the global leadership essay that I am almost certain no one else would have used. I was actually hoping for the interview so I could communicate in the interview how I am a better candidate over last year.

Does anyone know what's the best way to get to campus from the airport? Is there a cab line at the airport (or do I have to call ahead?) or a shuttle service? I'm looking to go visit campus in mid December.

it would probably be cheaper for your to rent a car. You're going to need one to get around Charlottesville anway. The Darden campus is somewhat isolated from the main campus and the rest of town. If you rely on cabs it won't be cheap and you'll be waiting for cabs to respond to your call most of the time.

I flew into DC and just drove it (2.5 hours). To fly into C'Ville, you have to fly with USAir, it's a connection through Charlotte I think, and it's pretty expensive, same is true with Richmond. If you do DC, it's a couple hours drive rather than the layover and it's cheaper and more reliable (well the shuttles are anyways). Just my two cents, g'luck!

Wish I knew about the Richmond option earlier. I already booked my flight into Charlottesville and the rental car there would set me back another $280. I'm staying at the Cavalier which is less than a mile away from Darden on UVA campus. The only problem is I get in after midnight and leave before 6am (flying to west coast is fairly difficult out of Charlottesville) which is why I'm afraid of unreliable cabs.

You can always call for cabs in Charlottesville; there's an active night life scene so you'll be able to get one to come get you. I wouldn't count on them trolling the airport for fares at that time of night. You should call the Admissions office. They're really good about helping people navigate Charlottesville. Truly some of the nicest people, I'm sure they would be excited to help

I visited Darden sometime back in Sep this year. I flew in (by United Express) from Washington. Took a cab to my hotel (Marriott Courtyard at University Medical Centre). I stayed at the 'wrong' Courtyard actually, because i think there's another one that's nearer to Darden. Darden is located at the North grounds, but the hotel I stayed in is right at the other end of the UVA campus. Nonetheless, it is possible for me to walk to Darden from my hotel. I did not consider the driving option as I'm an international and i'm not familiar with the roads in US.

I guess taking a cab is quite convenient, but i'm not sure about the availability around midnight. Alternatively, i do know several hotels provide complimentary airport transfer, you may want to check with yours before your arrival.

Good luck! It's a beautiful campus that will take your breath away :)

Our interviews are 30–45 minutes in length and your interviewer will not have read or reviewed your application or résumé. It is our policy to conduct blind interviews, so there is no need to send or bring in your résumé for the interview.

Question: Do we just show up with nothing in hand?
People who have completed interview please comment.

Anyone know if interviewing later hurts you at all? Like once you interview does it immediately go to final review or do they wait until all the interviews are done?

Thanks,
J

Interviewed last year. You don't need a thing. I think all I had in my hand when I walked in was the folder full of school info.
