anyone get any scholarship love from darden?
there's a businessweek article ("Full-Tuition Fellowships from Top B-Schools") that says that almost 20% get a full ride. is this correct?

Darden showed me some love, but not a full ride. When I interviewed I was told about a third of people get scholarships and of these about a third are full rides.

Other sources of full tuition reimbursement may be through the Consortium as well as the GI Bill, which if I'm not mistaken fully covers MBA tuition at state schools. Others are likely better equipped to speak to that, however.

Bakfed,

I had a question regarding food options for Darden students, both grocery stores and quick dining. It seems like most restaurants are located near the Undergrad area and that dining near Darden is limited to the buffet I ate at during my visit and another cafeteria near the Pepsico Forum. Are there any other options for students, or do most people trek down to the Corner area?

I likewise got a not-full-ride scholarship. It's the only of my admits to offer, so it certainly complicates my decision!

There's a few decent options in the Barracks Road Shopping center, maybe a 10 minute walk from campus - fast food options like McDonald's, Chipotle, Five Guys, chain restaurants like Panera Bread and BW3, and a few boutique cafes like Hot Cakes & some Thai place I think.

The Harris Teeter grocery store also has a pretty decent take-out buffet & deli spread.

This is much closer than the Corner, which as you point out, is probably a 20-30 minute walk or a 10 minute bus ride on the Blue Line.

Can anyone recommend a good GYM around UVA? Chain GYM preferred. Thx

There's a Gold's Gym, or at least there used to be, over by the K-Mart & Whole Foods Market on Hydraulic Road.

I think the most popular 'chain' gym is the Charlottesville ACAC
https://www.acac.com/locations/charlottesville/

I think there are two locations, one by the downtown mall & another up 29N.

But the Aquatic Fitness Center on the UVA main campus is a pretty nice gym, not sure if Grad students get access to it for free though. And the meat heads tend to work out a Memorial Gym on Emmitt Street near the Bookstore to avoid the crowds at the AFC.

Thanks AB for the run down. A Five Guys nearby could be dangerous...good thing apparently there are also plenty of gyms around Charlottesville.

Hey guys,

I am in too! Sorry for the late reply .... I was out on a vacation with my family, snorkelling and diving away to glory!

Good to see so many familiar names in her too! LRW, c2f etc .... Who else? Sorry, but couldn't skim thru those many pages!

Also, how does one write the $$$ ahead of the admit school if one has been offered a scholarship? Can't seem to add that!

Cheers :)

I live in New England and I only got mine yesterday, I kinda suspect they didn't mail them all at the same time, or they sent the Pony Express.

The package itself was fairly anti-climatic though... heh. Still ended up calling the office today to clarify some stuff.

o/ from another New England-er! I got my package on Monday and had the similar 'meh..' feelings about it. Or probably, getting a new Gryffindor scarf on the same day stole its thunder :)

We got a very good crowd for Darden Days, with events happening starting on Thursday. Probably the greatest part about it, as resonated by most people, is the King Family Vineyards where the school (faculties and current students included) joined the admits at a beautiful vineyard in Crozet. We had live performance, buffet-style dinner, and just a hell of a good time spending the night away. Overall, a great job accomplished and hopefully the admits walked away feeling that Darden may just be the best place to spend for the next two years.

Hi bakfed, I've another small question for you (I'm sorry if it's stupid). In facebook group, a lot of SY students are selling their furniture etc. I would prefer to get some things from SY students than shipping it half the way across the country.
I understand that entire class of 2012 must be planning to leave by June, but I'm (or most of class 2014) not moving to C'ville mid or late-July. So, how can anyone buy this stuff even if one is interested..?
