Any body else think too may people have been waitlisted in R1? The number of admits and WL's are almost equal on gmatclub.

i know, right? its now at 18 waitlisted and 17 accepted...

"Please be advised that the Admissions Committee has made a conscious decision to limit the number of applicants extended a place on the waitlist."

INNN after waiting on the waitlist for so long last year this feels good...

Waitlisted... :( I wonder if my interest in the HSM program had anything to do with it..

rgupta, how long did you have to wait last year on the list before you heard a decisive answer? wondering how much time i have to accept my only other admit - UCLA

I know that a similar school, Ross, is using the waitlist big time these past couple years - something like 400 people waitlisted and 150 of them got admitted ultimately. You're looking at almost a third of the class then being people off waitlist. Don't know if Fuqua is employing a similar strategy. It may also be a sneaky way of increasing yield (% of admits enrolling), since they can ask waitlist candidates whether they are committed to enrolling if accepted.

Again, this is all speculation for Fuqua - I don't have last years numbers about how many were waitlisted then ultimately admitted.

I spent about 5 minutes sitting quietly thinking about how I would proceed with Duke. Then I said, "GET YOURSELF TOGETHER, MAN." I'm not giving up on Duke without the fight of my life. GRE update, transcript update with 4 additional As in accounting and finance, and 4 additional recs (1 professional, 2 academic, 1 community service) are on their way.

I applied R3 was waitlisted and they keep you there until the day after their mandatory orientation. I took myself off like a week before that since i did not want to hustle to get out to Durham...

I admire your commitment level! Fuqua would be lucky to have someone as dedicated as you to go there. I hope you get in!

I am still unsure how committed I am to Fuqua just yet, but if I do proceed, my updates wont be anything as great.

Not sure if this was 100% serious but I would not bombard them with all those updates at once. I would space them out over at least a few weeks if not target one a month...I have heard schools get turned off if you bombard them with information that does not provide substantial additional information about your candidacy. Not sure if 4 recs will really show that much more. Might want to focus on 1 rec now and work from there...

I appreciate your advice, but it was their choice to use the waitlist, not mine. Each of these are substantial, relevant, and different pieces of material that highlight community, campus, academic, and professional leadership. If they didn't want updates, they should've 1) admitted me, 2) dinged me, or 3) established a no-update waitlist policy. If they're going to re-review my application, then I'm going to make darn sure that each piece is in front of them. Plus, I have a family and a lot of logistics to consider, so I'm not willing to be on this list up until or after orientation.

Waitlisted without Interview!! :o

I have no clue right now what I should do. The email says that FAQ section is updated to answer questions on the waitlist process. Couldn't find that link on Duke's website.

Any suggestions on what to do next to possibly get an interview and to convert it to an admit :?:

Hey

I am in the exact same boat as you- Waitlisted without interview and now not sure what to do. This was infact very unexpected as I had thought that it was a Ding (based on the Dec-16 decision)

Btw the waitlist Q&A link is at the bottom of the status update message.

Yah, found the FAQ link. Thanks.

I don't know if it is common or not, waitlist without interview. There are people who were interviewed and then rejected or waitlisted. I don't understand how they are still unsure of a reject, when they did not even interview.

Wow. More waitlist than admits. On last year's thread, I think there was only 1 R1 WLer who was admitted on the R2 decision date.

I admire your commitment, but I would have to echo rgupta83 and advise against sending so much so soon. It is good to spread these updates out so that you 1) don't look too overeager to the point of appearing desperate, and 2) you always remain top of mind.

I was also waitlisted in R3 last year, and stayed on it through the first half of orientation week. When I asked about the option to have additional recommendation letters sent in, I was told that the recommendation letters that would really add value are the ones that come from alums, current students or members of the administration. And so, I would suggest that you look for those with Duke ties to send the letters out for you instead.

Good luck!
