Waitlisted...

The letter says that they put very few people on the waitlist. How much is very few? If you count all of us, that's about 10 or so, (just based on my scanning just now), plus people who aren't on here. Anyone have an estimate?

In 2000, Tuck waitlisted 150-200 people. It is probably a bit lower this year, perhaps 100. They don't post these numbers anymore (for obvious reasons).

"In 1997 we were waitlisting about 200 to 250 applicants, and we've tried to cut back on that a little bit. The feeling is that it's better to let people know a decision. This year, we placed about 150 to 200 applicants on the list."

Thanks Vcom!
Well, with a class of 250, I would imagine that a ridiculously small number of people get in off the waitlist, so it's a combination of a numbers game and what one can do to strengthen the application.

While I agree that being waitlisted makes not being accepted a little less painful, clearly they see promise in us and could have just flat out denied us if they felt like doing so. So don't lose hope everyone, or assume that this is just a "nice" way of being denied! Best of luck to everyone!!! :)

Just to clarify, I didn't mean that those who were dinged at Tuck don't have promise. I was denied at 2 other schools. I was just speaking specifically to any waitlisters who felt that being waitlisted was the equivalent to being dinged. In no way did I mean to offend anyone!

fellow waitlisters, I am sorry to break this news to you but there is really very little chance now. Very little. I am a waitlist from EA this year. So far, I haven't received any specific feedback from Adcom. As long as the yield of the school shows some unexpected result (you'll need to move the whole economy for it), Tuck will convert very few people from waitlist to admit.

Nice link! Thanks.

It intrigued me that it mentions the target size of 400 back in 2000. Does this mean that Tuck has radically reduced their class size since then? I thought that currently the class size at Tuck is around 250 / year.

I think the 400 figure you mentioned is the number of offers. Tuck had a yield rate (acceptance of the admission offers) of 59% in 2005.

https://www.businessweek.com/bschools/05 ... s/tuck.htm

400 X 59% = 236 class size

Of course, these numbers are fluid and they never know how current economic conditions will impact yield rates. That's the main point of the waitlist. This is especially important with the current economic crisis. My hope is that more people will decide to hang onto their jobs instead of risk leaving to pursue an MBA with the hope of changing industries. This might be good for us on the waitlist.

I was also waitlisted, and bought into the fantasy that I did have a real chance of getting pulled off the waitlist. Thanks for clearing that up for me guys.

Congratulations to all those who were admitted and good luck to those on the waitlist.
I'm a R1 admit and chances that we will be together in the class of 2012 are high :-D

Anyone know when accepted students have to commit/send deposit? That's probably a starting point for anyone like me looking for movement on the waitlist.
