Congrats, and thank you for all this information. I think it looks like a pretty cool under the radar school. As you suggested, the employment $ figures are low, but that is likely because most people are working in the MW after graduation. What I didn't see, but would be interesting to know, was what percentage of graduates had received jobs in this difficult economy.


Tied for 1st in the nation with Yale. No, Olin grads don't compete for many IB jobs like those coming out of Penn, Harvard and the like, but still - this is very impressive.

I was just about to post this link, but you beat me to it! The employment stats were really strong last year and I have a feeling the school will continue to climb in the rankings.

I submitted 1/5 and also went there for undergrad. :)

It seems like most of their programs, and the university as a whole, are constantly climbing in the rankings. Also, their endowment is enormous at $4.2b, especially considering it's a small/medium sized school. All positive signs that the b-school should be climbing, as well. Strangely, according to BW rankings Olin has been pretty stagnant over the past two decades, even shown a slight decline. See link below:

Hi everyone! I had my interview Friday afternoon and received a voicemail from admissions giving me the ADMIT this morning!

My profile: 27 years old, Female, 660 GMAT, 3.7 GPA from Northwestern U (major in Economics, minor in Spanish), 4 years work experience at fund of hedge funds, passed all 3 levels of CFA on first attempt.

He didn't mention anything in the voicemail about scholarship money. Did those of you who received money find out only when they mailed the admissions packet, or did they tell you on the phone?

This is my first admit following rejections from U Chicago and Kellogg. It's nice to get good news!

Congratulations Twinks! On the admit call all I was told was that I was admitted. It wasn't until the packet arrived that I did see the scholarship offer. That was sure an exciting call. It sounds like they got back to you fast!

Congrats Twinks. Reiterating Pre, any potential scholarship info will be in a package they mail you, but I received mine within a week of the admit call so it shouldn't be long.

Did you admits visit Olin to interview? If so, any particular first impressions? I've scheduled a visit, and I'm getting very anxious to check out Wash U.

I visited campus for my interview. I am originally from St. Louis (moved up to Chicago for undergrad and never moved back) so the area is familiar to me although the school is not.

My impressions of Olin should be taken with a grain of salt because there were no classes in session when I went. So it was really, really quiet.

That being said, the biggest thing I noticed is how friendly everyone is. They really made me feel comfortable - I got lost on campus and ducked into a building and no less than 3 people greeted me, instructed me where to go, etc. When I finally found Simon Hall, I was peering into classrooms and I guess looking lost, and a student approached me asking me if I needed help finding something. He directed me to the "DUCK" to grab a cup of tea to settle my nerves before the interview - it seemed to me to be the student union and was excellent - sitting right next to me happened to be 2 finance professors who were in deep discussion and this was a great impression for me of the approachability and dedication of the professors.

The interview was about an hour and 15 minutes, and afterwards my interviewer walked me around the building. The building is quite small compared to other schools I've looked at, but is similar with regards to technology, classrooms and meeting rooms, courtyard, etc.

Also, as a St. Louis native, the area in which Wash U is located is young, full of trendy restaurants and shops. Also, for athletic people, Forest Park is nearby and is great for running, biking, etc.

Hey.. I have received an admit too from Olin.. with a half-tuition dean's scholarship.. :) And thanks to guys who have posted their campus visit experiences.. can we have more such posts for the benefit of those who are not in a position to schedule a campus visit?

Hi,

ksjhawk, thewhizzler, Twinks, Pre777 or anyone, do you know if the adcom contacted your recommenders? Just curious on how they would admit someone if they have only on resume? So your resume's got to be perfect right?
Do thy put much emphasis on the WE?

I never asked my recommenders if they received a call, but I sure assume they did.

They'll have more than your resume though. Essay, GMAT, transcripts, and your interview are all going to be very important.

Wanted to also post my timeline of admissions because I see some of you might be stressed about not getting an interview invite yet for round 2. Mine was REALLY late, and I ended up getting accepted with scholarship, so don't get stressed!

I applied one day before Round 1 deadline (November 1), received an interview inviation on Monday January 4th, had my interview on Friday January 8th, and received a call from admissions on Monday January 11th in the morning.
