People people...

An MBA from a top 5 school will open the doors, but we have gotten this far without one. I am sure that we will continue to be okay with or without one. At the end of the day it will comedown to how hard we are willing to work.

So what if you guys are admitted without a fellowship. Are you still going to go or reapply next year?

Ok, whoever thinks that going to Harvard equals $1M extra, as opposed to Consortium schools, please explain the logic of your pipe dream so that everyone here can make a better and more informed decision. Otherwise, please stop spilling your Kool Aid on this forum. Thanks.

I hope this provides the "logic" you are asking for lol. The research showed that a Harvard grad made over 3.8 mil while a Cornell grad made 2.8 mil and Emory grad made 2.5 mil. I hope you like the "Kool Aid" lol. If you want more check out the link

Using raw numbers is too simplistic of an approach for Harvard. You do realize that 1/2 of the class comes from money anyway right? Those students have doors opened for them that Joe Schmoe Superstar will never see opened, even as a HBS student. They also get the top 5% of every industry in their applicants.

We are not talking about opportunities of H/S/W vs. Top 30. That is un-debatable. Unless you are headed to Finance/Consulting or going the Entrepreneurship route, H/S/W vs. Top 30 w/ $$$ is a toss-up.

I recruit for a Fortune 50 and we don't even recruit at Harvard or Wharton. We have a list of target schools that range from
#2 - #25. Ignoring the recruiting opps. for your desired industry can cost you significant $$$.

Ross listed as a second tier school behind Owen? Figures don't lie but liars figure. I'm not going to waste my time examining the sophistic methodology of this chart, but suffice it to say, you've been drinking too much sugar water!!! Would you like a mayonaise sandwich to go with that, lol

Okay so now you are starting to get on my nerves. Please dont waste your time lol. I hate people who are assholes for no reason. You dont have to like the stats, but the stats are the stats. The numbers arent made up. Are there errors in the research, YES. But none of these are perfect. So believe the stats you want to believe and ignore the ones you dont.

Look, I think a good analogy here is to compare these programs to luxury cars. Harvard is like a Lamborghini or Ferrari and Darden, Ross, Stern are like a Lexus, Mercedes or maybe even an Acura. The Lamborghini group is overkill if you want to drive it around on streets with 40mph speed limits. They were made for the autobon, where there are no limits and there are other sexy cars. These cars have engine capacities that are vastly underutilized on American roads, and thus, they are constantly working at low capacity. If you take the Acura to the German roads, it will be working at 95% capacity all the time and burn out. But I plan to live in America, so who cares if I get "stuck" with a brand new benz! I don't see anything wrong with driving an Acura either, and if it's gonna cost you less time with your family or friends to drive the Lamborghini in Europe, then its not worth it.

You sound a little bitter... like maybe you know you don't have a shot and are angry with everyone who DOES want to go there. Personally, HSW isn't really my thing, but I'm not going to ruin the dream for anyone else.

I feel like I created an enemy just by saying that H/W/S is in an elite class with awesome opportunities and out of this world earning power lol. I could see how someone could get offended by that (NOT). lol Anyway it doesnt really matter. We all applied to the schools that we applied to for a reason. Im not knocking anyones decision. Its all based on PERSONAL opinion.

Listen sparkles (sounds like a stripper name), you don't know me or my stats, so you are assuming I can't get in to HSW. I got into MIT last year and chose not to go because of my perceived notion of cost/benefit regarding the consortium FS. But if I applied to HSW, I have a fighting chance at acceptance. I 'm not trying to ruin that for anyone, but I do think it is helpful to understand the economics of the decision and if this thread helps even one person to do that, then I'm glad I wrote it.
So I take it you applied to HSW?
