KD2010,

No since I am a reapplicant, I wrote about what happened to me last year. Don't contact the school until its respective notification date. (The date for the round that you are being considered for)for exapmle, if you applied to Yale and haven't heard back you def. should contact Yale its second round notification date was 2/25

Gotcha, thanks and gl!

I agree with chireapplicant,

Guys use the school's 2010 admitted student profiles to see where you fall. If your score doesn't fall within the schools range, the chances of being admitted to that school are slim to none. Focus on finding the schools that are an actual posibility. Although schools claim that the GMAT score is only one factor, it is the factor that will prevent a candidate from being admitted.

When I received feedback from the schools that I applied to last year, the persons that gave me the feedback told me that the only thing that kept me from getting accepted was the GMAT score.

Ugh cant sleep so went through and tried to figure out when students got fellowship decisions last year, I hope this can be a helpful indicator for some people ...Basically these are the dates when the FIRST notification came through, in many cases fellowship decisions trickled out for a few days after...Also I think last year's bunch didnt participate as much, there are some schools that werent mentioned at all, Yale for example...Dont read into that, remember that not everyone in the Consortium has found this thread, and there are tons of lurkers Im sure...But here's what I did find..

Cornell was the first, fellowship around 3/3
Emory fellowship Friday 3/5
NYU admit Friday 3/5
Tuck admit and fellowship Friday 3/5
Michigan Fellowship and admit decisions at the same time Monday and Tuesday 3/8 and 9
Kelley 3/8,9 and 11
Tepper admit 3/16
Darden admit and fellowship 3/18
and Consortium letters snail mail around the weekend of 3/19

I still want to know where UT was!!! :)

Good Luck!

You forgot the times that these notifications were posted!!!! ;-) j/k (not really) but yeah really... (but not) no really j/k... kinda ... wow I need to go to sleep.

@Iamnoprimenumber nice research. I had a difficult time figuring out when Tuck released decisions. March 5 though, wow...that's pretty early.

Yeah it was just one person on that day though....It's a little weird...last year's thread was not nearly as informative as this years...also people spoke in code a lot, referring to schools as # 1, # 5...we have more transparency...really at this point there's no reason not to, decisions have been made.

What do you think matters more for most people: the money or the school? For example, would you give up a sure consortium fellowship at Cornell to attend a slightly higher ranked school like NYU or Booth?

People, the GMAT is important, but it must be looked at in context of the incoming class. If an incoming class has 300 students, and 80% of the students fall in between 720 and 640 gmat, that means that 10% (30 students) have a GMAT below 640. Probably, 600 is the cutoff, and you'll need to have a WOW factor in your W.E. and you'll need to be a minority with a high gpa. Its a sliding scale. I don't think its that complicated to assess your chances at any of these schools. For example, if you can't get above 660, don't bother applying to Harvard because there are better uses for your application fees. That's why some schools don;t participate in the Consortium. They would not be able to admit enough people. The avg consortium member last year scored a 644 on the gmat. That's a bit low for the top ten, hence, it should signal to you that the bottom slots of an incoming class are overwhelmingly reserved for outstanding minority students with great packages, but sub=par gmat scores. That's just the way it is.

Actually the reason some schools don't participate in the consortium, from what I hear, is that each member school has to be voted in by the other members. Why would NYU want to vote in Columbia? Why would UNC vote in Duke? None of the schools want HBS, wharton, or Stanford in there.

Just relaying something I've heard.

Well I think that will vary from person to person....for me, the fellowship is important...I only applied to 3 schools...I researched meticulously just because I wanted to be happy no matter where I ended up and I'm going to make my final decision based on financial offerings. The US has around 450 schools offering mba degrees. The consortium has 17 schools that are all top 30....now any school that a student chooses to go to within the consortium is excellent top 7% in the us... in my case the companies I'm aiming for recruit on campus of all three schools...and for those jobs the starting salary is the same across the board regardless of whether you get the job at a higher ranked non consortium school (perhaps this is industry specific and only applies to me)...not to mention the absence of a 100 k bill six months after graduation. However I'm terrified of debt so like I said this may just be me. I will add that if don't get a fellowship I'm still probably going to school, just saying a prayer at this point!

yes, but its a fact that the higher up you go in the rankings, the higher the avg gmat scores. The avg consortium student, statistically speaking, brings down the avg at H/S/W where the scores are upwards of 720. Look, I think its a bunch of BS. If I were faced with the choice between lagomez with a 630 gmat and some other dweeb with a 730, I'll go with lagomez because every class needs a comedian, and comedians are great at sales and marketing. At the end of the day, people hire people they like, and that make them laugh, and that are fun to be around. If you score a 630, you can obviously read and calculate better than the avg person. There are plenty of boring geniuses out there, but no one ever said that business was rocket science. A successful executive told me once that wall street isn't that much more complicated than "buy low, sell high". Its the human element that matters more, because fun personalities are more scarce than 750 gmat scores.

You know what, forget B-school, I'm going to apply to work at one of these adcoms! I'm going to be the one dinging your kids' apps!

my question is why would a school even invite you interview if they will deny/WL because of your GMAT. Like you reviewed my app and thought it was good but you're denying/WLing me because of my app even though my interview went well?
