Dilemma: I currently have admits from my 2nd and 3rd ranked schools, and iv from my 1st. Both my 2nd and 3rd have indicated that they will offer the fellowship if it gets down to them. I will certainly accept and attend my 1st if accepted. However, I prefer my 3rd to the 2nd. Do you guys think it is a smart idea for me to turn down the admit from the 2nd so as to secure the fellowship from the 3rd should I get dinged by my 1st? Your 2 cent will be appreciated!

1. Depends on the schools.

2. Nothing is guaranteed even if they told you so

3. Doesn't matter now because the schools already have the rankings in hand so seeing themselves 3rd may change things. If it doesn't matter see point #1.

4. See #1 again.

5. If you miss #4 read on:

6. If you like #3 better would you attend over #2 without a fellowship?

Nope, I will not attend #3 without a fellowship. My question is, if I turn down # 2, will the fellowship jump over to #3 by default without going through #2?

So here's a strategy question for ya. Since I got dinged from Tuck, Stern is now my highest ranked school. I have an interview in a couple weeks, and considering how highly sensitive they are about yield, I thought it would be good to somehow inform them that my #1 ranked school is out and now Stern is my new #1 ranked school.

The only downside I see is them learning that I didn't get in and them considering the fact that I have already been rejected by a school and them wondering why and thinking that perhaps Tuck saw some negative aspect of my app that Stern hasn't seen.

Right. I wouldn't mention it. You face the risk of coming off as desperate. If anything, they should think you are getting into to your #1 and maybe they'll throw a fellowship your way to entice you not to choose your #1.

I agree with Lagomez, you shouldn't bring up anything negative in an interview unless asked by an adcom member, you certainly don't want to talk about another school. That may leave a bad lasting memory in the interviewers mind. Good Luck with your Stern interview!

I also agree with what's been said. I wouldn't tell them that they are your number one choice, I would try to show them by giving examples. Know that school inside and out!

Congrats on all the invites. Just got my first one today at Duke. I was spiraling into despair, so this a lot to me. Keep holding out guys!

Congrats!! Great school! I was planning to apply to Duke but just couldn't make the R2 deadline in time and I figure R3 funds are low for much of financial aid. In any case, best of luck!!

Hi all,

A little late, but thanks so much for the congrats messages! (I am out of town with limited access to a comp.)

@ lagomez, to your question, I can only get one scholarship, I will still be considered for Consortium membership and have the chance to attend OP.

Congrats to everyone who's heard back with interview invites! The wait will be over before we know it!

When I contacted a member of the adcom @ the beginning of January to let the school know I'd be taking the gmat again at the end of the month, they told me I'd have to a) apply r2 with the score I already submitted or b)delay to r3 if I wanted them to consider my new score. I knew it would be a huge risk, but I decided to delay my app with the r3 bunch. I wasn't comfortable with my first score. So i don't know...we'll see what happens. I won't be hearing anything from them for a looooooooong time given the r3 interview/decision dates! lol

Mich/Indiana game on Saturday...got an email saying we can contact admissions to get tickets to the game. Unfortunately, I booked my return plane ticket for Saturday night before I saw the email :(

Aahh, gotcha, well even if I wanted to, I gotta get back Sat night myself so guess it works out for me either way!

I would call someone with the Consortium and ask. My guess is you are probably correct as long as you decline the offer before they get together in March.

I don't know why I am just thinking of this now, but I forgot to attach a picture to my consortium app (I know it was optional). Did you guys attach a pic?

Yes. It was similar to the now infamous Bret Favre pic. Was that what they wanted?

I don't know what's worse....self initiating interviews to show interest or waiting for interview invites. I self initiated in the fall just to get my interviews out of the way during visits, and conducted my consortium interview at the one school I applied to that didn't accept self initiated interviews. however now I feel lost in space almost because I get no feedback on the application until decisions..receiving an invite would serve as some sort of interest at least. Le sigh.
My long winded brain fart started out as a good luck post to those consortium candidates expecting invites today by the way! Good Luck!

Is there a particular school that is releasing today?
