Did any R1 admit dare to write all 3 accomplishments in the same domain such as work?

How come the "Graduate Coursework" section on the HBS application does not have any place to enter our GPA? Is that they do not take into consideration how well you did post undergrad? Or am I missing something? The form asks for other things like grading scale etc., but no place to actually enter my grades or GPA?!?!

On the graduate page, it only asks for "estimated rank among peers". Where do I get that from? And who is supposed to do the "estimating"?

I'm in the same boat. I dont plan on filling anything in rank because there was no such thing and i have no way of knowing. I also didn't fill anything in undergraduate class rank because the form states to leave blank if school does not rank.

Any idea, why for the graduate section, they ask for the grading scale, but not the actual grade/GPA?

[color=#4000FF]Well, not gone, but shrinking, as per ukase by Tsar Nohria to cut back the PE Kulaks and get some kids fr. the Tractor factory :-) (sorry for dog's breakfast of Russian totalitarian references here) . No, she did not say work in a coal mine, but she did hint that they were tilting towards kids who did work in tractor factories (not on assembly line, but maybe in biz develp or supervisory role on floor) in fact, old economy companies are the new Black(stone) at HBS.

Sandy, could it be that we have a lot more people with PE background nowadays, compared with like 2-3 years ago, so naturally you see more applicants from PE (in nominal terms) that didn't get accepted? My personal impression is that plenty of this year's admitted profiles have finance background. In fact, I'd venture to say that at least 30% of those finance profiles I've seen have PE elements in them. Of course, it'd be interesting to see the actual stats after all rounds are finished.

Agreed. Seems like the class is made up of one heaping serving of McKinsey/Bain/BCG (with preference to those who have worked in the U.S. and overseas), a moderate serving of former analysts at Goldman Sachs/Morgan Stanley/J.P.Morgan who now do other things (PE/government/start-ups), and then various dashes of military, clean tech entrepreneurs, and Indian IIT kids.

It's a good group.

My advice is...
- Just don't fill in the estimated rank if your schools don't give out official numbers.
- For graduate GPA, there's no place to put it in the Education section. I suggest putting it in your resume instead, if you want to emphasize it. The AdCom will see it from the transcript anyway, so chances are they will take it into consideration as well.

Grading scale? you mean distribution i.e. A-F...I have not got the slighest clue. If you didnt point it out I would not have noticed. But, I think 1) they have the transcript which shows GPA 2) UGPA is more important than GGPA

Makes sense, Aspiria.

smileyface, I was hoping GGPA would not be totally ignored. My undergrad is from a foreign university, and my academic performance there is open to a lot of interpretation -- different schools convert "percentages" into GPA differently. My graduate degree is from the States, where there should not be any doubt I did well, there are no conversions needed -- my GPA is proof enough. You're right UGPA is more important that GGPA. I wonder how important GGPA is though -- from the way the application form is written, it looks like they completely ignore -- they don't even want you to write it on the form! (Unlike other schools, where I've always had a place to write my GGPA).

Oh well, no point whining.

We don't make tractors, but we do make insurance. Sandy, I wonder what chances an insurance guy has to get in?

As I am interested in both PE (have a lot of M&A experience) and returning to the industry, I have struggled with how to cast my career vision. In the end I decided that all the PE guys would be able to "out-M&A-me" all day long, and that showing a passion for insurance would be the way to go...particularly innovative ways to reach underserved markets. We'll see if my strategy pays off.

Because class of 2013 admits can see each other's address/work experience/pictures on the prematriculation website, I went back to check your theory and you're more or less right - although most have moved on from McK and BCG and are now working on entrepreneurial endeavors.

Could be a cool move, esp. the 'underserved' market cliche. Dirty secret is, for the most part, career, vision essay hardly counts, unless you say somethig really dumb (want to start a company searching for Obama's birth certificate) or make it clear you dont need an MBA (want to learn better techniques for being a real estate agent), or, on the plus side, have some pwerful, original story which grows out and leverages your actual record and is not just future-spin cotton candy. One kid asked Dee in feedback call about his choice of career, and wondered if that was part of the outcome, she giggled and said, in effect, "we hardly read that essay since 90+ pct kids wind up doing something else." I've read 1000s of those essays and they usually confirm, by sophistication of voice, "BS/PC" touch points noted or not, and general organization and smarts, what we know about you already as writer, thinker, and dude in touch OR NOT w. HBS mantras about correct ways to formulate stuff and self-present. It is possible to use that essay positively by sneaking in accomplishments 4, 5, and 6 in some streamlined way and saying those are in part basis for aspiration. But not many kids have genuine accomp. 4, 5, and 6 etc. SO dont overly worry about that one.

Above para also applies, for the most part, to Introduce Yourself, altho that can be used to get in family background, if you are victim or up-from-poverty type of some kind, and show sense of humor and fully leverage excess extra currics, blah, blah.

says he would bet short on

1. US dollar

2. President Obama !!!!

3. US real estate

4. Facebook

he is long on Chinese b schools AND WIKILEAKS!!!! AND GOLD !!!!

the fact that he is long on gold and short on Facebook, well, you tell me...................I admire the dude's honesty.
