My friend who went through the process last year told me two things: 1.) the first wave are adcom interviews, which are traditionally stressful 2.) the trickle invites are for alumni interviews, which are traditionally more relaxed.
The moral of this story is to be calm and that you might possible be in better shape with a trickle invite

i thought all interviews by HBS were done by ADCOM. I think #2 above is incorrect?

I'm still waiting for an interview invite as well. I submitted my app on 1/11 but didn't get my last recommendation letter in until 1/22. Anyone else in my shoes?

You are incorrect. They occasionally hire contractors for off-campus interviews, but they do not use alumni's directly per se. Maybe in the past but nearly positive that is the case now. Harvard and MIT are both known for their scrutiny in ADCOM only interviews.
For R1, I got my invite the middle of the 2nd week - and as Dee has said on her blog, invites will keep going out until the Feb. 16th.
Additionally, when I went to sign up for an interview slot, there were quite a few spots open. So all the speculation about 90% of invites going out on the first day is just that....SPECULATION. That may have been true for 2009 and 2010 applicants, but HBS is doing things very differently for 2011
So if you are still waiting for an invite, DO NOT LOSE HOPE until you get the dreaded ding email on the 16th! Best of luck to those till waiting!
Thanks so much nikki4nikki- you are keeping the hope factor alive in all of us. I am getting so disheartened.....but again keeping my fingers crossed. Would you know around when they send out invites on other days --is it around Noon EST?

For R1, invites started going out on 10/15 at about noon EST, didn't get mine till 10/22 at 9:50am central time (10:50am EST)

Hmm, appears that my friend interviewed two years ago. I guess it could have changed since then. Sorry if my info is incorrect. I saw the alumni interviews on the clear admit wiki and had my friend saying the same thing, so I assumed it was still the case. Either way, there are still more invites to come. Don't worry, be happy, and know it will all work out for the best.

I've got several HBS alumni friends who interviewed with alumni as well but that was a couple years ago. I had to go to Boston to interview with adcom in R1 and didn't have the option to interview with alumni.
Adcom does all the interviews even in the hub cities, correct? Is there any benefit to doing the interview on campus (assuming you've already visited)?
What's the consensus on doing on-campus vs. off-campus for HBS? Do they unofficially weigh on-campus more than off-campus? Is spending a day there prior to the interview worth it in terms of your ability to talk about the school?
Obviously I'll have to wait til Monday to see what the available dates look like, but my nearest option is Menlo Park so I'm looking at a 45 minute flight to go there for a day trip vs. a cross-country flight and a two or three day trip to do it at HBS.
The HBS students I've talked to so far are split in their opinions.
If someone doesn't mind, could someone post the interview slots / stats that you guys see when the interview sign up opens up on Monday please? Will at least give us hopefuls a rough idea how many interviews went out today. Thanks!
Guys I just called hbs admissions and I was told this was just the first wave of invites and there will be"quite a few more" over the next two weeks. She emphasized the QUITE so let's be patient and hope for the best
Even if this is not true, you do make my day. Thanks for cheering the folks who are waiting stilll
