I just sent my application for R1.

I was just reviewing my PDF file and I put my job description #2 at the job description #3 collumm. I only have 2 job descriptions so it should be clear that the #3 description if for #2 job.

Alas, I am freaking out. Everything seemed perfect on my application until this silly mistake.

Will they still review my application?? I need encouraging words!!

I wouldn't count on the blog posts from years past that say it's ok for recommenders to turn in their materials late. There's been nothing to lend weight to that theory for this round of apps, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if you get pushed into R2 in the event that you have a delinquent recommender.

Yup, I put that disclaimer as well. Although it might not be wise to make assumptions, given that Dee posted it earlier this year in January, it probably holds true now as well.

Either way, I just turned in my app. I've got 2 recs in, the third should be done by tomorrow morning my time (night time in Boston!)

Good luck to everyone!

They will definitely review it, but will probably take note of that mistake. If I were you, I'd close the application and focus on another school now (easier said than done, but you have to try doing it!)

I know. Ugh. I already sent Wharton too.

HBS is my number 1 choice though... Do you think that if they really like my story, scores, profile... they won't invite me to interview because of a form mistake?????

Well, let's hope for the best!

Also, I don't know if this has been discussed earlier, but I unwittingly used another school's essay for Question 4 (I had no idea that it was part of that school's application until someone else told me after I submitted HBS). Will that be considered a negative in my application?

Umm, I don't think so. If it compliments your application well it should be fine.

My only concern is that they might think you are not creative or is being lazy by re-using another school's essay... But I don't think it will be the case.

I think we have to stop looking at our app and stressing because what's done is done.

I'm not feeling confident at all. And I'm way too tired to start thinking of writing the other apps.

Are you applying anywhere else?

Yeah, that's my biggest concern! The worst part is, it's far from the case. I came up with the topic independently at the last minute. To be fair, HBS did release its questions first and its deadline is before that school's, so they might be a bit forgiving (I hope!) And I think it rounds my application well, but let's see.

Anyway, I am applying to Stanford R1 too. I might consider sending in MIT too if I have any energy after Stanford! What about you?

Yeah, that's my biggest concern! The worst part is, it's far from the case. I came up with the topic independently at the last minute because I had to use one part of my old Q4 in another essay. I've been doing some research on Q4 since I submitted the app and there seems to be mixed opinions on this whole "reusing another school's essays for Q4." Oh well, let's see how it goes. To be fair, HBS did release its questions first and its deadline is before that school's, so they might be a bit forgiving (I hope!)

Anyway, I am applying to Stanford R1 too. I might consider sending in MIT in R1 if I have any energy after Stanford! What about you?

I just sent the Wharton app today.

I want to do Chicago and Columbia too but I can't seem to think about that today. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have my energy back. I might do 2 'safer' schools too... UCLA and Duke... but I have until end Oct to think about them.

What's your profile??

One of my recommenders is running late and it might be Tuesday before he submits it. How lenient are schools with recommenders? or does it have to be in by noon Boston time?

thanks?

Not lenient at all, everything has to be in by the deadline or you're in round 2 pool.

I'm also waiting for LORs, everyone is busy so it comes down to the wire!

From Dee's blog (search for the January 6, 2011 post)

"What if we don't have all your recommendations? We start reading applications if we have 2 recommendations. We'll contact you via email within a couple of weeks to let you know we need the 3rd. If we have only 1 or none, you will be moved into the next decision round."

Even though I have two in, I'm pushing very hard to get the third one done tomorrow. Also, take this with a pinch of salt since HBS might have changed its policy since January.

Great, I hope they actually use that more reasonable and lenient policy. But like you said, I would err on the side of caution because the statement is a bit dated.

Do Interview Invites really come in 2 weeks?

Am I the only one not confident at all? I dunno... all the hard work, GMAT of 700+, essays... and then when you see that PDF it just seems so... bland?

Anybody else have any input on messing up on a part of the application form? It's a really small glitch but I keep thinking that might keep me out.

Just submitted H and W and now just so beaten up to finish the other apps.

Am I the only one with all these thoughts??

@mpg2011: I know what you feel. After all the hard work, sometimes I feel very good and at other times, I feel like a dud!

For interview related queries, check out the Adcom blog, there's a chunk of information there. IMO, invitations will start going out 2 weeks from now (around 14-Oct)

In 2010 (search for "September 20, 2010"), Application deadline - 1-Oct, Decision notification - 14-Dec; Dee posted:
Quote:
October 1 - deadline for receiving online applications
October 15 - November 3 - interview invitations will be issued via email
November 3 - all candidates not invited to interview will receive either a decision indicating that "we are unable to offer you a place in the Class of 2013" or an invitation to join our waitlist
November 1 - 21 - interview weeks, both on and off campus
December 14 - decision notification (admit, deny, or waitlist) for all interviewed candidates

By Nov-3 (4 weeks of application deadline), all interview invitations had gone out. She also posted on Oct-15th (2 weeks of application deadline) that about 800 people were interviewed in Round 1.

In 2009 (search for "October 09, 2009"), Application deadline - 15-Oct, Decision notification - 15-Dec; Dee posted:
Quote:
We expect to begin sending out interview invitations on October 16.... maybe more like a not-scientifically-measured stream until December 15

And on Nov 06, she posted that 50 more interviews may go out, which means almost 90% of the interviews had been sent out within 3 weeks of application deadline.
Remember, many people apply well before the deadline. I know someone who applied in the first week of September. Clearly those can be reviewed and invited the very next day after application deadline.

Hope this helps.

All recommendations in and application complete, now it's time to anxiously wait for an interview invite. Two-three week turnaround for most invitations is pretty fast considering they must have like 4,000 applications or so in round 1.

I've got one more application to go, Sloan. At least working on that should help keep my mind off hoping for a HBS interview!

I wonder how many people read/review applications in the HBS admissions committee? You've got to figure that R1 and R2 each have around 3500-4000 applications, probably only around 1000 in R3. To be able to review that many apps in R1 and R2 and send out interview invites in such a short turnaround is pretty impressive.

Anybody on this thread have any idea how HBS specifically goes through the process?

So you guys think there's 4000 application in R1? Really? I thought it would be a little (lot) less... And the big wave would come in R2...

Anybody else has any input in small mistakes on the application online form? My stupid mistake is killing me. I basically filled my job description on employment #3. I have only 2 previous jobs... so for job #2 I got the stats of my company, and then it jumps to job#3 and there's the description. It's pretty much easy to follow, but will I be penalized? Anyone know of someone who has made mistakes like this?
