Thanks! My recs have been submitted but I'm sure that's good news to a lot of people!

Guys, one comment: I was reading the Director's blog and find some of her writing... arrogant? She writes things like... "We don't need to know (and don't care)...".

Anyways, I loved HBS when I visited but I think the way that blog is written gives a bad impression to future candidates. Not that they probably care.

Just a random thing I noticed and wanted to share.

I would think that Round 1 would be the lower of the 3 rounds as it relates to # of apps. I would think around 2000 apps for round 1. About 4500 for round 2 and about 2500 for round 3. It makes you wonder if there are certain stats that will get your application put in the reject pile right away.

Really? I thought the distribution was more like 40% R1, 50% R2, 10% R3. I wonder if Sandy can verify this for us?

That may be the case. I've seen it printed before that the plurality of the class is admitted in R2. Probably the most apps overall too. Sandy said somewhere that R3 won't usually admit more than 5-10% of the whole class, if I recall correctly. I'd be interested to know percentages of overall applicants in R1 as well as percentages admitted. I wouldn't be surprised if it was 40% R1, 50% R2, 10% R3, like you suggest.

Maybe my stupid application form mistake??

Who knows. Their range from the class of 2013 had a 490 gmatter... so you have to wonder.

Haha, bro, time to stop freaking out about your clerical error on the application. I'm sure others have made the same mistake, and some have gotten accepted, and some have been denied. No point in stressing about it anymore. Nothing can be done. If it's as easy to identify as you say it is, then I doubt it will significantly affect your application.

I'm a girl... haha. But thanks!

Yes, I'm done stressing. What's done is done.

Thanks for addressing it though, I was kind of freaking out alone here.

Yes :(

All that hard work, and I go to Dee's blog and read about "Real HBS Students" and how they worked at McKinsey and double majored in engineering and Chinese and Stanford and were born in in a war zone and discovered a new molecule in high school, etc etc.

No way I'm getting through :(
I do wonder about how - literally - they go through thousands of applications in 2 weeks. Sandy? Any idea? Do they not read the essays if your profile isn't competitive?

mpg2011
Do Interview Invites really come in 2 weeks?

Am I the only one not confident at all? I dunno... all the hard work, GMAT of 700+, essays... and then when you see that PDF it just seems so... bland?

Anybody else have any input on messing up on a part of the application form? It's a really small glitch but I keep thinking that might keep me out.

Just submitted H and W and now just so beaten up to finish the other apps.

Am I the only one with all these thoughts??

If this makes you feel ANY better, I have a hanfdul of HBS students who are fairly 'regular'. Yes, I do know two mckinsey/bcg + stanford guys but I also know people who are a little more normal.

Dee just posted on her blog that they will continue to accept recommendations for another 48 hours. That's some good news for quite a few people I hope.
Kind of wished I saw that before pressuring my recommenders to get the letters in. Wonder what's going on. Is HBS not getting as many application as it hoped? Maybe less competition?

Sounds like its the other way around, It seems that the policy previously allowed for some leniency on getting the 3rd recommendation in. Looks like they are tightening up a bit.

Glad I got mine in yesterday. Good luck to all.

Promising at first, until you get to the bottom which seems to indicate that app quality is better..

I have a question to those who are applying to 3+ schools.

What do you say to your reccommenders? I feel so bad to keep asking them for this... Do you use the same recommenders?

I want to apply to 5-6 schools RD1 but I just feel bad for bothering the reccomenders.

Well, it's probably better to ask the same people than asked different ones who has to start all over with process.

Take them out to lunch or something.

I told them up front that I would need recs. for multiple schools. I have 3 recommenders and although my former supervisor will be writing 1 for each school, I divided the rest of the apps among the other 2, since most schools require only 2.

I also provided each of them with a sheet containing all the deadlines, recommendation questions, a list of my accomplishments/weaknesses, my goals, etc. I also wrote some blurbs about each school, teaching style, culture, so that they could talk to aspects of my personality and work experience that matched what the school looks for.

Hi All,

Just a quick question:
HBS has the last question as "Answer a question you wish we'd asked." This has a word limit of 400. So, I have to first state the question I wish they would have asked me and then i need to answer that question. Does the "question" that I am phrasing also contribute to the word count OR is it just the response that will count?

This may come late but I had enquired on the same with HBS. The 400 word limit is for the response only. Hope that helps.

I asked my recommenders to prepare a common set of points that they want to stress about me and reuse those answers for different schools. I did give them an idea of what each school looks for and accordingly have asked them to highlight on those areas. My personality characteristics & related stories that they highlight is more or less the same across all the schools.
