Congrats to all who submitted their application for Rd1. Huge accomplishment in and of itself! Loved reading a lot of your essays...especially the Why MBA essay...so inspiring!
After working your tails off for the last few months, you might be tempted to chill out from now until you hear back from Admissions...DON'T! Go out and do the things you said you wanted to do!

For those who are targeting Rd2, here is a snippet from an interview with Dean Nohria in the most recent HBS Alumni magazine. Nohria is being asked about the three "modules" of the new FIELD program. Reveals what HBS values in students and, by extension, applicants.
"What value does FIELD add to the first-year students' experience?"[Dean Nohria]
"We all agreed that there were three areas in particular in which we wanted to improve the capacity of our students.
First, we wanted to improve their leadership skills....in particular, enhancing students' emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
...
Module Two, global immersion, aims to develop students' capacity for contextual intelligence...we can make them better prepared to operate in a globalized world.
...
Module Three is designed to integrate what students have learned throughout the first year. We're going to do that in the context of a start-up where teams will design and launch a new venture."
Per my feedback to a lot of you, your essays need to demonstrate EQ! For example, that means taking responsibility for your mistakes (in the SETBACKS essay)! I mean, truly owning up to your mistakes and not blaming others.
You need to demonstrate that you can handle different situations, e.g. if you're a consultant, write about DIFFICULT CLIENTS, CONTENTIOUS MEETINGS, etc!
Lastly, write about innovating! Doesn't mean you have to work at a start-up. DOES mean you have to write about leading new initiatives at work, extracurriculars, etc! Make sure HBS knows that you're someone who challenges convention and not a highly-skilled robot.
Lots of good stuff you can glean from articles like this from HBS Administrators. Good luck to all the Rd1 applicants and get ready TO WORK YOUR TAIL OFF, Rd2 applicants!
