Yes, you can be waitlisted after being interviewed. Happened to me last year...then ding this year.
Posted from my mobile device I was waitlisted last year after an interview as well!! In fact they gave the waitlisted un-admitted folks a phone number to call to get feedback, which I bet most everyone did. They specifically gave me 4 things to work on
1) Practice your interview skills a bit more
2) Take the GMAT again (even if you don't improve)
3) Attend the information sessions in your area
4) Take up a hobby like juggling
I'm not kidding they said something more ridiculous than juggling...regardless, I improved 20 points on my GMAT, attended both information sessions in the area and listed a hobby that I hadn't listed before.
And what happened today?????
Ding Ding Ding da da Ding Ding Ding da da Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding
O'McDonald had a farm.. Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding!!!!
Looking through the forum I see a lot of smart talented people with high GMATs and awesome sense of humor denied interviews/admission, and yes the presentation of the letter is "I am sorry to convey disappointing news." which I resent. I feel it just makes options aside from HBS more probable and when one of those options leads to "success" then that news will be a blessing in disguise and not a "disappointment." I hadn't seen that article posted earlier, but another stat shows that the likelihood of one's success is dependent on those applying to HBS rather than those attending it

You're all already superstars in the making and it was nice to have shared this ride with you.
Ding Ding Ding da Ra Ring Ding Ding... ee i ee i o!! lol
