Sandy, do you know, historically speaking, what percentage of kids who were deferred from R1 to R2 (without interview) end up receiving interview invitations in R2? How often does that happen?

Posted from GMAT ToolKit

have fun, sorta complete list of HBS WL announcements last year, if you can figure out what happened, let me know. :-)

Has anyone been through the interview? What were the questions? Where did you take it? thks !

I have just had mine - London hub-office. It was a very nice atmosphere and very friendly. The questions were something like this:
- Run me though your resume and the decisions you have taken to get where you are now
- Was it hard to take the decision to ...
- Why do you think that was
- How was it to study in a foreign country compared to your home country
- How did you choose to concentrate to work on this type of project
- What would you say to somebody who is new to your company
- What is your dreamjob
- What else would you have liked me to ask you

So it was very much along the line of the typical HBS interviews. And though it was very nice, it is very diffcult to judge if I actually did well or not.

Good luck everyone.

Were you also told that you wouldn't have an decision notification until Dec 16th? That surprised me since most people I've heard of who got offers got them 1-2 weeks after interviews.

Would they not need to interview everyone in a given round before making a decision as to admission for any individual?

no one in the recent history of HBS has ever gotten an admit during a normal interview round in two weeks; admits are sent out at noon, as per the dates on HBS website.
And beyond that, you got the friggin date wrong anyway, it is December 19th.

yeah I knew it was the 19th but she definitely told me the 16th (I'm positive because I almost asked her if she didn't mean the 19th).

and you thought it a good idea to muddy the waters even more by repeating her error without comment???

My interviewer told me, that I would hear back the 19th. She told me, that I would get an Email saying, that my decision has been posted, or that my status changed or something like that. And then I would have to log-in to the portal to see the final decision.

Sorry I wasn't clear.

I knew the official decision notification date was the 19th, but after reading summaries of past interviews on clearadmit, I thought that in practice this meant they would send offers up to the 19th and not necessarily on the 19th. Now that I think of it, the comments that led me to this conclusion might have been for other schools than HBS. Didn't mean to confuse anyone.

Hi all,

I am just wondering how important is it to send out a thank you note after an interview with an adcom member? I have not received any business card from the interviewer, so if a thank you note is required should I send it to the general admission committee email? Thx.

I didn't get a business card either and can't remember the interviewer's name unfortunately. I don't think it's really expected but perhaps it is a plus.

Let's put it this way - By not sending a thank you note, you will not get downgraded by the adcom into the "ding" pool, rather, it is something that is "nice to do". If you know the name and have the email address, yes, why not, however don't break your head if you can't. Adcom members get tons of thank you mails throughout the application season, and they are not going to match it up with your application file.

SCARY New York Times article about impact of economy on Wall St jobs for kids in 20's

experts say that today’s doldrums, unlike previous downturns, are here to stay.
Quote:

“A lot of the positions that are being cut right now aren’t coming back,” said Leslie K. Hild, a vice president with the recruiting firm Right Management. “It’s an emotional roller coaster for almost everyone.”

The industry’s woes have also affected the plans of undergraduate and graduate students at the nation’s top colleges.

At Harvard Business School, where a relatively high 39 percent of this year’s graduates went into finance, compared to 34 percent last year, there has been a “heck of a lot more anxiety” about next year’s hiring season, according to William A. Sahlman, a professor of business administration.

“People used to think of some of these organizations, like a Morgan Stanley or a Goldman Sachs, as safe career bets,” Professor Sahlman said. “Those firms are not going away, but they’re going to hire half the people they hired before.”

haha, not exactly a company to say you admire during your HBS interview, given management style of the CEO, an HBS grad himself. This is what business is actually like, as opposed to the pop-tart version you get at HBS.

Zynga's Tough Culture Risks a Talent Drain
