FAMUCEO: What would cause an applicant to be offered a place on the wait list without having an interview first?

HBSDeirdre: We try to compose a wait list after each round and sometimes simply don't have the capacity to interview all applicants before making that decision. All candidates ultimately offered admission will have been interviewed—hence, wait-listers may be invited to interview at any time.

Dude, you know you'll be checking all day ... just like me! I'll be in Venice for Carnevale on Friday and I'll *still* be checking my iPhone every two seconds. Sad, but true.

I know... man I am really sick of the interview invite bug! Might just try and get loaded with work so that i have my mind focused on some other thought that does not have the word interview in it!

To add to Pudge's sentiment - I will be in Paris for Valentine's day weekend (leaving tonight - I hope). And I will be checking as well. Though I hope I have the patience to check it only once when it hits 11pm there (5pm EST) - Or I expect my gf will chuck me off la tour eiffel.

RepeatedRefresher,

I'd rather be in Paris at the Musée du Louvre with Mona Lisa than be in the office...Lucky you you have some thing to look forward to other then the invite!

The museum is beautiful. Though I've found that I'm more of a fan of just walking the streets and the gardens, rather than specific tourist attractions. But either way, here's to all of us. Oh and free Japanese food at work because only 10 people showed up :-) yayyy

I feel like a crack head waiting for these stupid interviews. This whole process reminds me of just how much in life is completely outside of our control. A friend of mine who is Korean once told me about the crazy exams they take their senior year in high school which basically determine their fate and place them on a vocational or academic track. I remember thinking how brutal and deterministic that sounded... but now I realize the U.S. is the same way. We just do the filtering out later in life at the grad school stage. It just means we get to hold on to that "American dream" for a few years longer before ultimately becoming disappointed by reality...

I have just one question revolving in my mind... Will the Admissions group be able to go through all the applicants by Feb 12.... Seems like a stretch to me... The reason I ask is that Feb 12 is touted as the BIG DAY!

Any thoughts?

I get the impression that the admissions committee has this down to a science, although they are leaving a loophole that they will continue to trickle out interviews after February 12 as well.

Saw it as well - was digging around and found her in the Stanford thread as well where she just got an invite - she also claimed a 4.0 GPA and 780 GMAT and being a female maybe they consider her a stud and send those invites out a bit early?

Also, it gives us Stanford applicants hope in that they waited this long to invite someone who appears so strong!

Someone on BW is a big fat liar. :P

Besides, everyone knows that you can't trust someone who has a 4.0 GPA. They're either robots or geniuses, both of which are inherently evil.

This may have been asked before, and if so, i'm sorry. But at what time do the invites go out? Some have said 12 noon, others say 5pm (Boston time). is there any official word on this?

May be they started sending this out early.... but I checked the HBS website and there are no messages indicating that the invite have started to trickle.

One of the two scenarios...

a. They may have started today since htey realized too many to send out Friday
b. She is mistaken or wants to create panic...

either way it does not effect us since we will get it when we have to...

I think we will find out tomorrow... Fellow applicants can you please tell us what time you got an invite along with the good news.
