Hmmm...Final decision days kinda feel like the opening scene in Saving Private Ryan...
Some kids get their head blown off right at the start (ding w/o interview)
Some make it past the beach and then get blown off (ding with interview)
and the lucky few make it through safely (Admitted...sigh  )

am struggling for an analogy for WL though

WL - I think of "Old School," where part of the initiation was to tie a brick to each guy's p***s. The nervous wait on what will happen is what WL feels like to me. I just hope I don't end up like that big guy...

WL is like the reserves - the kids who didn't make it on the beach in the first wave :)

... and I love that your analogy to Saving Private Ryan logically equates Adcoms to Nazis :P

Dear Lord....HBS AdCom members dressed up in StormTrooper regalia, blasting us with machine guns that spew out ding e-mails instead of bullets...EPIC

I wonder what this forum would have as analogies tomorrow... when tensions will be higher then ever!

I actually prefer the HBS method of releasing (almost) all interview invites on one day. Saves us a lot of tension. We will all be sick with nerves tomorrow, but if we don't get an invite tomorrow that's pretty much it. Better than being dragged over the coals slowly over a 3 week period like all the other schools. The HBS thing is a like a shot to the head. Quick and (relatively) painless.

Anyway, good luck everyone!!

I went to one of these and thought it was good--was really just interacting with women who are current students, getting a feel for fit/personality/specific perspectives, no interaction with Admissions (at least not at the event I went to), just a casual way to talk to some current female students.

So there was not a soul from the Admissions group... May I ask when you attended this event.. and could you throw some light on "How friendly were the students?"

I don't exactly remember when this was--it was sometime in the fall? I got there late (which they said was fine--since there's not a presentation, it's more of a non-alcoholic cocktail party than anything) because I don't get out of work until after 5. But by the time I got there, it was just a lot of women students standing around talking to groups of prospectives. I talked to a few students, I found them enormously helpful, 1 or 2 even gave me their business cards to email with any questions. There were a few too many prospectives for the number of students though, so it wasn't as intimate as it probably could've been. There may have been admissions people there earlier, but this isn't (from what I could tell) a "put your face in front of Admissions" type of event--rather it's purpose was more to have prospectives ask questions of students about life/academics @ HBS, the admissions experience (but these people aren't from Admissions so they're just giving you advice based on what worked for them not necessarily why the Admissions picked them). Anyway--if you want to get a better idea of HBS, I'd recommend the event. If you're really familiar with the school, have visited etc. and have already applied, I'm not sure how valuable it will be. You might get some interview tips but besides that...
