Did anyone else receive a hand-written note from your interviewer after the interview? Basically said we are here to answer any questions about your application, it was a pleasure to meet with you, appreciate your sincere interest in our program, etc.

I received one within a week after interviewing too. I nearly had a heart attack when i saw a thin square envelope in the mail from Rice. I thought the fact that it was hand-written was a nice touch.

I guess its standard practice now? Have you been accepted or rejected yet? Did anyone who was accepted or rejected also receive the letter after interviewing?

The Rice Jones School accepted me in the first round, and no such handwritten thank you note from my interviewer was sent. He did, however, congratulate me once the school admitted me via email. Interestingly, I did send my on-campus second year student interviewer a handwritten note (as well another student who thereafter gave me a tour of the school) and in my further communications with the school often I've used the term 'sincere interest' to describe my particular situation and dilemma. Thus, may I ask who did you all interviewed with that sent such a handwritten thank you card?

My letter did not use the particular phrase "sincere interest."

My card was sent by my interviewer on the exact day I was interviewed, so I guess there's nothing to do with the admission result.

Hi
I have applied on 7th Jan, Round 2, but havent heard anything from the adcom yet.
Anybody who got interview call/acceptance in the Round 2 or in the same boat?

March 1 is the final decision date. The wait is killing me.

Should I drop a mail to adcom asking about the application status?

Definitely yes.
The invitations should've been sent out a month before.

They said that invitations are being sent till end of February.
So I guess I still have to keep my fingers crossed. Anyone in the same boat??.

The adcom I interviewed with said rejection notifications go out on 3/1 and acceptance notifications go out a few days leading up to and including 3/1. If I have to wait until 3/1 I will be extremely nervous.

think yall are reading way to much into the thank you cards (sent and/or recieved) being a good/bad sign for admission. its a good practice of etiquette being exercised. just saying o_0

good luck everyone!

I agree with Vnshah. The thank you card really means nothing. I received a handwritten one and the interviewer talked about some specifics I had mentioned about Texas/Houston during my interview. It was a nice touch. I don't think the person who interviews you can solely make the admit decision. It depends on the number of candidates who applied, the quality of the application pool etc etc. Needless to say the anticipation is killing me.

Agreed. I didn't get a thank you card but was admitted R1.

I agree with you completely. I know it varies, but does anyone have any information about what time of the day/what part of next week acceptance calls will start going out? I usually hate answering calls that aren't saved contacts because it usually ends with someone trying to sell me insurance or donate to their charity. I guess it would be safe to just answer all calls in the hope that one of them is from Rice.

Based on the posts from the previous round, it looks like calls will begin going out as early as Wednesday and Thursday, with the final notification email being sent to everyone on Friday the 1st.

Yeah, I agree and that is the feeling the interviewer gave me too.

I was looking at the stats for Rice from last year. It seems 4 out of 8 who interviewed received admits in Round 1 and 4 out of 5 and 4 out of 4 for R2 and R3 respectively.
rice-university-jones-2012-calling-all-applicants-120265.html?fl=similar

And 10 out of the 17 this year for R1
Again, I am not trying to read too much in to it but a small school like Rice is actually serious about you if you have been invited to interview.

This is directly from the Rice website:
Is an interview required?
Yes, but not all applicants will receive an invitation to interview. Once an application is completed, the Admissions Committee may request an evaluative interview. Interviews are granted by invitation only after all materials have been received and initially reviewed. If the Admissions Committee is requesting an interview, you will be contacted via e-mail. It is the responsibility of the applicant to confirm the appointment. Appointments which have not been confirmed will not be honored. You may contact us toll-free at 888-844-4773, at 713-348-4918, or at [email protected].

Best of luck to everyone!
