I walked into a very small university store. The purple was VERY overwhelming...especially for someone who has ALWAYS been blue & gold.

river made a very astute observation today. Most of the Kellogg folks leaving partners behind are from California.

I guess purple is a bit better than seeing Red everwhere (Stanford :P)

That's because most partners from California do not want to move to the freezing cold of Chicago. How was the weather btw?

Branson, Haas did not mention GMAT score yet, but I can see R1 people having a higher one because they generally "round out" the class in R3 with the more unique experiences.

I'm also waiting for R2 decisions...

So river, according to you there are a lot of guys at Kellogg who DONT wear the pants in their relationships. How does that go with becoming a good leader? ;)
You obviously arent married hahaha. Trust me a happy wife is the key to your happiness.

721 is UNREAL! With a class of almost 500 people that average seems almost impossible.
Thats average of admits not necessarily people attending. Yield is probably strongest for the people with the lowest scores and weakest for the people with the highest scores so that will probably drop. Though all the students were blown away by that number.

branson
I also like the 40% female rate. ;) I wonder if female ratios are going up across the board at all schools? Any indication of that?
Not sure about other schools but the number of females there definitely seemed a lot higher than the other schools I visited. Also the first night we were there was valentines day, and a few of the female students were kidding around with some of the guy students (who bailed on doing stuff with their significant others) about there not being enough single guys since all the guys come with significant others when far fewer of the females do.

The one thing R2 admits have to consider, they told us the best apartments go very quickly during the weekend of DAK II. If you have a significant other make sure you bring, not only because its important for them to get a feel for the school. But also because you are so busy you really dont have a lot of time until sunday to look at places or even the town really and significant others spend all of Friday looking around evanston and checking out apartments. So they will be able to quickly narrow it down for you. They said people rarely sign for apartments at DAK I but tons of people sign at DAK II.

The appartement thing makes me kinda anxious. So you have to pretty much know if you want to attend Kellogg when you go to DAK II? Are you talking about the single appartements as well? (I assume yes)

Kry, did you ask Haas for an extension of the deposit deadline yet?

Nah, in the housing forum at DAK, they told us not to panic and not to feel pressured to sign a lease this weekend. There should still be plenty of apts available through May. They suggested panicking around June.

That being said, I'm signing a lease this week. Is it normal to have to pay a processing fee in Evanston? I've never had to do that before...then again, I've always gone through Craigslist.

There are plenty of apartments its more of specific buildings are extremely popular and go faster. There are actually a lot of places to live in evanston unless you have a large dog...that seems to be the only difficult segment, we are going to have to either buy a condo or rent one from someone who is willing to allow our dog. The high rise apartment complexes dont allow anything besides cats or dogs under 25lbs.

When I said that some apartments are gone right around DAK II I was referring to the locations that seem to go fast and are extremely popular with Kellogg students. They said that there are plenty available through mid May so you shouldnt be stressed too badly unless you have some very specific demands. THere are plenty of great apartments but for some reason people really gravitate towards several buildings by the sound of it. Probably because its so nice to live near everyone else. Its amazing how concentrated the population is, its the complete opposite of what I have heard about almost every other school. Almost everyone is in Evanston and almost all of those people are right near downtown.

Just got my lease. They want to charge a $50 credit check fee (usually costs $20-25 out here in California) and a $250 processing fee (wtf!).

A processing fee is typically charged by the larger highrise agencies. I was told Park Evanston is notorious for 'hidden' fees.

I am gonna take my chances with Craigslist. The biggest shock of the weekend was learning how expensive Evanston is to live. I guess the student ghettos I associate with every school is filled with undergrads.

Nope, I haven't gotten into Kellogg yet, so there's no need for an extension since Anderson has A-Days in a few weeks.

I will probably take my chances with Craigslist, as the rent there within a few blocks of school (near the El station) are pretty cheap (roughly $500 cheaper than the SF Bay Area Peninsula here - e.g. Menlo Park). $250 "processing" fee just sounds wrong...

Ya it seems like if you dont mind being farther away and not next door neighbors with a bunch of kellogg people rents a lot better. I didnt notice most single folks had roommates and most couples only had 1 bedrooms. My wife and I are now strongly considering buying a condo but that really depends on our house selling. I think we might try to swing a deal where we sign a lease with an option to buy it or something along those lines. It doesnt seem like it will cost a whole lot more to do it that way and it would be a good way to stash the money we hopefully will make selling our house. Plus home equity loans and lines of credit have way better interest rates than student loans and we can write those off on taxes.

Well a 250 processing fee is better than a months rent brokerage fee thats common in some cities, I know NYC is crazy with things like that.

Hi everyone!!

I have to echo all of River's statements about DAK (though I was less in tune with the JV side, not having one ;)). Unfortunately never found you RR!! I did get to meet many of the other GMAT Clubbers, which was great.

Definitely one of those who was tremendously swayed by DAK. Sloan has a mighty high bar to clear in order to convince me in that direction - but for now I have to say that Kellogg is #1. There was a certain aura about the weekend that was pretty neat and I for one am drinking the Kellogg cool-aid.

Beyond the multitude of events (which River has already alluded to), the people stood out - both professionally and as great people (to borrow a couple of the differentiators Dean Jain mentioned). There was not a single person I met this weekend I could not see myself with on a project team or having fun with out at a bar (I think something that pretty much everyone agreed upon).

To those who were at DAK - thanks for making it a spectacular weekend :)

No - downtown as in downtown Evanston (where all the restaurants, bars, and most of the apartments are).

The neat thing is that while most of the Kellogg students live off-campus the vast majority of people live within a few blocks of one another.

$250 is not bad actually. We bought a condo in Evanston last year when my husband joined Kellogg, and we had to pay $200 to the condo association just to use the elevator for 4 hrs for moving in.

When I was renting in Chicago northwest subarbs (where rents are half those of in Evanston), even there they were charging $175 processing fee, though they waived it for me as I was employed with one of the preferred companies in their list

MST how do you find owning a condo while your husband is in school? We are strongly considering it, we really liked a couple buildings we looked at and if we cant sell it in two years we can definitely rent it to a Kellogg student easy enough by the sound of it. The only thing I noticed there are relatively high property taxes and the fees are high but at least they included heat. My wife really liked the ones in the old marshal fields building, really tall ceilings make a one bedroom feel a lot larger and its a really nice location.
