Guys,

About an hour ago I got the status unknown update of death...

Now to my complete shock I just received an email from admissions about a status update stating "Congratulations! I am pleased to inform you that you have been admitted to Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management MBA Two-Year Class of 2011."

I am in disbelief. Has anyone been notified by email and not gotten a call. I live in Houston. Why would they not call. If this is a prank, someone is very, very, very mean!

Check the online status - but no reason to think its a prank!

And my status says I have been rejected. Both the letter in my status and in my email are from Beth Flye, Assistant Dean, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid.

This could be the ultimate stomach punch of my entire life.

Tried to call but office closed at 5pm central. Here are the facts:

1. Status went unknown

2. Received an email, with my full name spelled out, from the email address [email protected] congratulating me on my acceptance.

3. Moments of excitement, shock, curiosity as to why I got no call.

4. Check online status to find that "Despite your many merits as a candidate, I regret to inform you that we are not able to offer you a place in the entering class."

Now I wait in limbo until at least tomorrow morning. Wondering if I should just send my deposit along with a printed copy of my acceptance email! lol

Can anyone help me or make me feel less anxious/miserable right now?

One of the worst situations to be in. I am sorry!
If it was a prank, its very mean spirited and if its a mistake, I am appalled at Kellog's professionalism and seriousness. :x

Clearly that is a mistake, one way or another... If you don't get in, I would at least expect a refund of your application fee.

Same..got the admitted letter in email. but on the website, it says i'm dinged cruel world. :| :| :|

I feel like this is a worst nightmare scenario. Getting rejected outright would be much easier to stomach than receiving an admit email only later to find out it was a mistake and in fact a rejection. Wow. I am really in shock right now and don't know what to think. I really hope I am in fact in at Kellogg.

Well definitely an error on one side or the other. Since Beth sends the emails and an IT dork updates the online status, I would hope that Beth gets it right. I think the odds are much greater that the email is right since its unlikely that would go wrong, I mean they need to pull up your email, type it in and all that. Plus thats a much bigger mistake in my opinion than having someone click the wrong check box on an online status. Honestly, I dont know what it means but...

Since they are most likely out of the office, I bet you are in and you should think that so you can at least get some sleep tonight.

All I know is - someone at Kellogg admissions is gonna get fired for this screwup (if it is indeed a screw-up)...until you guys can call them tomorrow morning, let's just hope for the best.
