This question's probably been asked before, but if you get an admit call, what area code is it from? Or is it a private number?

I was wondering the same thing. I would assume 847, however I could see it being unknown, or really anywhere if it was a 2nd yr calling from their cell phone.

For roll call I am in for Rd 2. Interviewed on Jan 23 w/ 2009 alum in Bucktown.

Applied a couple of hours before the R2 deadline and received an interview waiver on 2/11. Is there any point in expecting to hear from Admissions? Or is it a ding?

The big exciting call comes from a private number.

With regard to the interview waiver, I wouldn't give up all hope, but to be quite honest, it doesn't suggest a positive outcome. Using R1's events as a record, I saw that all students admitted had interviews. The students who got an offer ultimately and initially received a waiver due were subsequently contacted for a telephone interview. In other words, if you got a waiver but adcom saw merit in your application or some reason to believe that a conversation would add to their evaluation, they would contact you for an interview.

I'm a round 2 applicant and I was wondering if visiting Kellogg one time will be beneficial now. Anyone have thoughts on that?

Also, if I do go, how do I tell the Adcom that I visited and that its my top choice school?

upto you... it may help you with your own decsion but as far as school goes.. it doesn't matter much now. Having said that... if you you were on WL then this would have made a small change but again school views the visit as a benifit for applicant rather then for school. If you are confident about the school and your interview is over then I would wory much.

Plus, depeding on when you interviewed... if its already 2-3 weeks then most probably your file has already made its way through the review process so adding any new information is not gonna make any difference.

Regardless of whether your file's been reviewed already, visiting the school isn't going to impact the adcom's decision. My suggestion would be to save the money and, if you're admitted, come to DAK. That would be much more helpful than a regular campus visit to help you see what Kellogg is like and decide whether to enroll.

Jerz, were we as bad as these guys at NOT reading old posts?

The interview waiver means NOTHING. It just means they don't have someone available to interview you - aka, exactly what they say. If they like you, you'll get a phone interview, if it's a ding, you won't. I, and several others on this board, got in after initial waivers followed by phone interviews. In my case, I didn't even get the phone invite till early March, and got admitted about three days after the interview (which happened in mid-March).

Guys,

A general consensus around the 'decision release dates' is that

If you receive a call from a private/unknown number and if you're sure it's from Kellogg, you should press the 'receive' button exactly after 0.75 milli seconds before the 8th ring. Only if you do so will you be able to hear 'congratulations' or else...........

You will receive an email(assuming 8 rings is maximum)

not really. be honest and be sincere in your thanks. that's pretty much it. also, don't be surprised if you don't get a response back. it's normal since the interviewers are busy.

i had a student adcom interview on-campus and didn't get a response to my thank-you note.

I didn't send my interviewer a thank-you note after my on-campus interview. Is that bad? It was with a member of the admissions committee. She did give me her card with her email address on it (without me asking).

I sent a thank you email and never heard a response, even though the interviewer who is an alum asked me to contact him if I had any follow-up questions. I imagine that they are super busy or they are instructed not to respond. Don't know.

a simple genuine thank you email should suffice

I actually sent an unfinished thank you email by accident to my Kellogg interviewer and had to send a follow up to apologize...we are all humans, and the admissions officers understand :)

Word. Kellogg clearly states they DON'T REVIEW the app till the interview is complete or an interview waiver is granted. I am an international R2 applicant and received a waiver just about 2 weeks back after which my status was updated to 'under review'.
Now sitting pretty and preparing for interviews ...

To address some of the above comments:

1) Always send a thank you. I can't imagine it's an automatic ding if you don't but it's just common courtesy.

2) There really is no format that you need to follow but mine usually come out like:

Dear Interviewer,

Thanks for talking to me about this school. It was interesting to learn that XYZ. As we discussed, I am eager to ABC if I enroll. Hope you enjoy the rest of your semester.

Very simply, say thank you and touch on a few things if you can.
