Would cancelling an in-person interview in Evanston a few days before the actual interview be an automatic ding? Any chance they would let me reschedule a phone interview in lieu of the cancelled interview with such short notice?

i had asked the admissions office this question because i had had an emergency. they said they wouldn't think anything of it. who knows in reality though. i was able to work around my emergency eventually and made it to my originally scheduled time.

I think anytime this week. Or maybe starting tomorrow. Last year they had started releasing results on Feb 20.

I'd love to hear sooner, but I'm not sure what reason we have to discount the blog post indicating that decision notifications would start in early to mid March.

i guess i'm toward the tail end for completing my interview, but ah well. i just completed it today, this was actually the most thorough interview i had, he asked me every freakin question possible! it wasn't intimidating or intense, just not as lax as all the others, even my interview with an adcom was less invasive.

ugh, now the wait...none of the schools i'm in consideration for, except wharton, have a hard notification date, boo. any day could bring a great or terrible surprise.

I don't think there's any reason not to believe what the adcom said with regard to the timing of decision announcements.

I am sure this question has been asked before, so please forgive me. I just wanted to know where is the best place to stay in Evanston that is decent and cost-effective? Please advise asap as this is for two days from now! :)

The Hilton Garden Inn is pretty good. I think they even have a Kellogg/Northwestern visitor rate. It's minutes from Jacob's Center.

Be sure to eat at Giordano's (500 Davis Street, Evanston, IL)

Cheers

Wherever you stay, keep clear of the Best Western. It's the worst Best Western I've stayed at. It's expensive for what you get; the building is old; and the trains keep you up all night. They even charge you for parking and breakfast!!! It's in Evanston for Pete's sake, not downtown Chicago!

Hey all. Long time lurker, first time poster. I'm in for R2, interviewed on-campus 2/18 with a member of the adcom. This wait is grueling!

I second the comment about avoiding Best Western. Really loud hotel. The pizza question is a matter of personal preference. If you like the idea of a butter crust try Lou Malnati's. It was a bit heavy for my taste (im generally a healthy eater). Giordanos has a dry crust ( but makes up for it with mounds of cheese). Both were delicious. And if you are into hotdogs, get a Chicago style dog at Portillos or Weiner Circle. Just dont ask for ketchup on your dog.

Giodano's and Gino's East are the two biggest chains with good pizza. I think there's also a numero uno and numero duo that are even better. But you really need to see what you like. I say try them all.. I think giodano is more packed to the brim loaded pizza, I couldn't even eat 1/3 of a pizza.

italian beef at portillo's is good too. if you do wiener circle, you should get the complete experience. for that, you need to go really late, like past midnight or so. be strong for the sensory overload.

hankpunk, i applied R1. ~99% of all admits got phone calls in R1 as reported on forums. i think the 1% fraction who didn't were exceptions to the rule and were folks who were international or not contactable for whatever reason. The WLs and Dings all got emails. The acceptance trend was basically as follows:

Early on in the notification season, most of the decisions rendered were admit (phone calls) or ding (emails).

Later on in the notification season, the number of dings decreased and the decisions shifted primarily to admits (phone calls) and waitlist (email).

Hope that helps! Good luck!
