Hi everyone.. I'm planning to apply to Kellogg in R2. I have a question about their topic 4a
Describe a time you had to inspire a reluctant individual or group.

I have 2 situations and am not sure which one makes more sense... one where I persuaded a team to adapt a change that i was proposing, and two where I altered the attitude of my subordinate through my actions.

Any thoughts on which one would make more sense in this context? Thanks!
Without knowing more about the particular situations I would say pick the one that had the most impressive outcome, e.g. A doubling in your divisions revenue vs putting together a kick ass slide deck.

I agree with this, and add that if the outcomes were similar (and there was no other reason to choose one over the other), I would choose the one in which you persuaded a team. Convincing a team involves more influencing (aka inspiring) than convincing someone that is a subordinate.

I would recommend writing them both out in semi-finished drafts, and then decide between them. Once you get them fleshed out on paper, it will become clear which one makes for a stronger essay.

A friend of mine told me that he works with a 1Y Alum and the Alum got an email today asking them if they'd like to call the 1Y admitted students. If the alum wants to call people, they needed to respond to this email by Dec. 12th. Also, the email said they are looking to bring in a bigger class this year.

Just thought this was interesting and I'm not exactly sure if it's true or not. Has anyone else heard anything about this? If it's true, I would suspect that calls won't be coming out until after Dec 12th.

I haven't heard anything to confirm it, but it does sound pretty reasonable. My guess, if they do call, is that they will be calling admits during that week up through the 19th (the following Monday).

Keeping my fingers crossed and good luck everyone!

Ugh...really hoping this just applies to the 1Y program and the 2Y program admits will start going out earlier. I'm waiting on Kellogg's decision to decide if I have to submit R2 applications and I am so burnt out on this process that I have no desire to move forward with R2.

I'm in the same boat... I hope Kellogg lets me know soon, so my R2 recommenders won't hate me!

Can someone tell me what the school colors signify under people's avatars? I know green means "accepted," red means "ding," and black means "nothing yet," but what do blue and purple mean?

Hmm, not sure. Based on what my profile looks like, I think purple means "interviewed" and blue means "researching or writing essays."

I am inclined to disagree with the "outcome" criteria for chosing your story. While the outcome matters, the crux according to me is the behavioral aspect. Why did the reluctant individual/group need inspiration? What was your reaction to the reluctance (anger, disgust, empathy, pity, frustration)? How did you manage your emotions? What did you DO to inspire them?

Note the question does not read "Describe a time you inspired". It reads, "Describe a time you had to inspire". Hence whether you were successful in inspiring is not emphasized. So this could be a great failure essay. You could have failed and the outcome of the failure could have had profound impact on you.

Just my $0.02. Would love to hear what others feel. Love brainstorming here.

I think this is right:
Green - admit
Red - ding (only seen it without interview to date so not sure if it is the same for ding after interview)
Purple - interview complete
Blue - invited for interview
Black - researching essays / submitted and awaiting

Not sure but I think that's right

Admitted from WL = Black with * (Denied from WL = Red with *)

Hope that helps.

This is correct, however, there are two shades of blue. This color means "Matriculating" and this color means "Researching or writing essays."

Note: These are probably slightly off because I was picking them from the color grid. The point is, light blue means "researching or writing essays" and a bolder blue color means "Matriculating."
