Yeah things are very different from last 2 years
There is clear decline of interest in hiring internationals by majority companies unless you’re AI/ML expert
Yes

Consulting and finance though would also be hit by this

It’s chicken and egg problem
No one want to hire you since you don’t have visa and you can’t get visa unless you have job

Finance not sure I’m not expert
Tech heavily

Consulting in churn , typical generalist consulting jobs will be impacted ... but implementation consultants will be in raise as you certain domain deep expertise and able to implement change in that industry

Majority are in the generalist bracket I would think atkeast in MBB even in Big 4 and beyond most post MBA hiring would be strategy consulting most likely rather then very specialised roles,?

Yeah true — AI really is eating into the classic strategy work at MBB. Bain’s partnered with OpenAI, McKinsey has its own GenAI tool, and BCG is using Claude — so a lot of the research + deck-building work is getting automated. They’re shifting toward AI implementation and change-management projects, which means fewer generalist hires but more demand for specialists.

Once something hits the wires it spreads everywhere, but I’d still wait for USCIS to confirm before making any assumptions. No point stressing until it’s official.

That said, I get the sentiment—when you’re mid–B-school apps, weighing leaving a stable job, and staring at ~$200k in loans, even unverified headlines matter. Let’s keep tracking the official updates, but we should also scenario-plan (best/base/worst case) so we’re not caught flat-footed if the news solidifies.

The worst part is that businesses crave certainty more than anything..so keep aside if it will be implemented or not, it actively discourages potential employees from hiring internationals ...things changed so much from when i came to usa in 2017

Immigration is so polarized right now that no administration is likely to go against broad public sentiment—party label aside. Even rational reforms struggle in this climate.

If Democrats try to regain ground by 2028, they’ll probably tack more centrist. That means immigration won’t be a top priority, especially since most immigrants aren’t voters yet.

Yes but they might reverse the 100k fee rest can remain same but this only real hurdle otherwise it's USA with struggle and hard work as cliche as it sounds everyone I know made a better life for themselves regardless of economy or job market. Eventually you find a job but with current policies I doubt that would sustain.

H-4 now will probably be under threat

Yes

If that happens US education for foreigners is over

I think many currently on opt and whose companies haven't applied for H-1B will probably be also under threat since companies may choose not to apply and simply show the door

t would also hit U.S. universities hard. International students keep many programs viable and support whole college-town economies (housing, retail, services, campus jobs). If that pipeline dries up, enrollment, research funding, and local jobs all take a hit.

For top AI/infra/security talent, sponsorship cost is tiny vs. the value created. They’ll still file H-1B/O-1/EB tracks for critical roles....talent war going there

For MBAs, Big Tech still hires, but sponsorship now skews to roles tied to product, revenue, or AI — PM, product marketing, monetization, GTM strategy, ops for hyperscale businesses.

Less appetite for pure generalist strategy/rotations or roles without clear ROI.

Will they still file for doctors though? My wife planned to take this route

Are they similarly in demand in undeserved areas such that it makes sense to pay the fee for hospitals
