MIT says, "We are interested in learning more about you and how you work, think, and act." Then in every essay they add, "Describe in detail what you thought, felt, said, and did."

What if I miss one or two of those components, i.e. "thought", "felt", "said" and "did"?

Will it be fatal, for example, if I write only about what I "thought" and "did", omitting "felt" and "said"?

if you actually started describing all five senses, you'd need a little more than 500 words. i think it is very silly they phrase the questions that way. good fiction should have all of it, not a 500 word essay!

I was thinking the same when I was writing my essays. I tried to insert 'thought', 'felt', 'said' etc. but after a while I thought my effort was pointless. I mean, my essays were still saying the same thing!! I would say not to worry too much about it. It is good if you use those words but as long as you convey your thinking clearly and get your ideas & points across then you should be good to go. Just my 2 cents. :)

Thank you, man! :)

What about incorporating "self-reflection" into those essays (I have learned...; I understood... ; I realized...). Won't that be a hint for the adcom that I, for example, also applied to HBS and Wharton, i.e. 'superior' schools (both those schools have the "reflection" element in their essays prompts). Will they look at it as a risk factor for my admission?

I would focus on answering the question(s) and not worry about what the adcom would think. It's best to not try to second-guess the adcom. :)

One last touch of my app, and I am ready to push "submit".
The following question is in the application:

If you have consulted with any members of the MIT or MIT Sloan community, indicate their names, MIT/MIT Sloan affiliation, and your relation to them (co-worker, professor, relative, recommender, etc.). (Limit of 200 characters)

I have communicated with the Adcom by email, including Mr. Garcia himself, and when I visited Sloan, I also talked to quite a few students, profs, etc. Should I mention all their names? Any ideas on how to answer that question?

i would prefer naming students/prof over adcom

during my interview my interviewer actually mentioned the person i wrote down, because she knew her
