Essays

Statement of Purpose
Your task in writing this statement is to convince the MIT Sloan PhD Program that you will do excellent doctoral work, and that you have the promise to have a successful career as an academic researcher. Your statement should be no longer than three pages (50 lines per page); be concise.
Below are some examples of the kinds of specific questions you may wish to address.
Plans: Why do you want a career as an academic researcher? Are there specific reasons why you want to enter the MIT Sloan PhD Program instead of a different program?
Interests: In what major field do you currently plan to work? What sort of research topic(s) excite you intellectually? Please be as specific as possible.
Background: Why did you decide to do a PhD in Management? Are there any aspects of your record to which the MIT Sloan PhD Program should give special attention?

Optional Essay
Your application is a chance for you to tell your story and make the case for why you would be an excellent PhD student. You may use this optional section to provide any additional information that you have not had the opportunity to include elsewhere in your application. For example, you may wish to include how the world you come from shaped who you are today (your family, culture, community, etc.), extenuating circumstances for elements of your application, information about your choice of recommendation providers, etc. Note that these are examples only, and that the content you include here, if any, is entirely up to you.
Please do not include any links in your response. 500 words or fewer. Please note that while your optional essay will not appear in your application preview, we are still receiving it on our end with your materials.
