On 18th April, and 25th April, I had conversations with the admissions office at NUS, to understand the prospects of my application. In the process, I got to learn a couple of things, which I would like to share via this post. Please note that my intent is not to hurt anyone, but to state the real facts and analysis, for the benefit of others who want to pursue the institute.
*Please note that these points pertain specifically to Full Time MBA program, and not the part-time one.
1) There are "too few" seats (currently 0 seats, in fact) and "way too many" waitlisted candidates.
2) They have already filled their seats (which means that they have sent out admits + the admits have actually paid the commitment fee).
3) This year, the competition has been tougher.
For these reasons, I unfortunately, have some bad news to share for all the candidates still awaiting results from the college:
1) People who haven't been interviewed yet, and are expecting the call: In direct words from the institute, as was in my case, "If you haven't received an interview call, consider this a reject and reapply next year."
2) Currently waitlisted folks: Waitlist runs in hundreds, and they don't currently have any spots. I think, from my experience last year, there will be merely 2-3 admits from the pool of 100s of waitlisted candidates, owing to the expedited competition this year.
3) Appeared for interview, but haven't heard back from the college yet: The outcome, I am really sorry to say, is most likely a reject or a waitlist. Since ALL THE SEATS ARE FILLED UP, there isn't a spot to place you.
All in all, the institute is really slow in communicating updates, since it receives a huge number of applications each year. Instead of anxiously awaiting the results, I would recommend shifting focus to other institutes you've applied to. There are a lot of esteemed institutes to target, and NUS, no matter how awesome, is just one of them. Last year, I received reject notification by the end of August (had been on waitlist till then)
However, on the flip side, miracles do happen! If anyone gets an admit, DM me. I'll be more than happy for you!
