Unfortunately, the only options were on-campus or phone interview. Since my *sparkling personality* doesn't really shine through over the phone, I opted for on-campus even though the timing isn't great. Will be interviewing this Friday 2/19. Anyone else going to be there that day?

Where are you flying in from. I haven't schedule and I haven't decided yet if on-campus or phone.

Making the horrible 4 hour drive from Chicago. :(

Is your deadline 2/25 as well?

Just completed my interview.

The interviewer had a similar internship experience and , therefore, we connected. I wonder if Ross deliberately tries to fit you with an interviewer from your background or having similar future goals.

There were not a lot of questions that I was hoping for but more about:

1) Walk me through Resume.
2) Questions on my resume.
3) Why MBA?
4) Why Ross?
5) Detailed career goals related questions given the non-traditional path that I am trying to take but I think he bought it.

It was relaxed. I had prepared well for how I will contribute to Ross and never got that question, so I don't know. Let's see...

I just received an invitation to interview! I submitted 1/4 via the Consortium. I had actually already convinced myself that I wasn't getting in so for those still waiting for an interview, there's still hope! The annoying thing is that they are only giving me until the 2/25 to schedule it.

Did they give you an option of interviewing with an alumni?

updated your status.

Also interviewing Friday, in the morning.

Yup, I don't think there are any options for interviews after 2/25. Unfortunately it's really far from LA and only one airline flys diectly to Detroit. Not cheap to fly last minute.

Is the entire application material (with int report) reviewed before reaching final decision? Or is just pre interview decision ratified with int. report?

I must admit I am very nervous.

Not sure if this helps answer your question but my alumni interview said "The interview can only help your candidacy, it can't hurt it with Ross." Read into that what you will but I took it as "We've got a good idea where you stand, let's see if you can't bump it up if you're borderline."

Hmmm, what ACNGuy got told is interesting. I had my alum interview in London last night, and I was told that the interviewer would basically send back a thumbs-up or thumbs-down. The admissions reader would have done the same prior to the interview (presumably). If the two match, you've got one foot in the door......the candidate is recommended for admission and the file is reviewed one final time by the Admissions Director, who will make the final decision.

Therefore, this would seem to be in direct contradiction to what ACNGuy's interviewer said. A thumbs-down from the interviewer definitely can (and if I understood right, will) keep you out.

I think they're both in line. Your interviewer didn't say what a thumbs up or thumbs down meant. Assuming thumbs down means this guy is an idiot and you'd be crazy to admit him, then the interview probably does mean something. If a thumbs down is truly a rarity, then the interview is more of a litmus test. My interviewer was a student and hence didn't tell me anything about what the interview meant, but I got the impression from the lack of grilling that it was more of a litmus test. They do interview a large percentage of applicants though, so I'd guess they have a certain subset of people they plan to admit anyway and maybe the further down the list the more your interview can pay off.

EDIT: The below is incorrect. Please see the link I posted in a later comment.

Just in case anyone hadn't seen it, there's a poster on the BW message boards that claims to be an active Ross interviewer. He/she claimed to have recommended two applicants in R1 this year and not recommended two others. Of the recommendations, there was an acceptance and a waitlist. Of the non-recommendations, there was a waitlist and a deny. Admittedly it's a small sample size and an anonymous source, but it does make me wonder whether my own interviewer ultimately recommended or not.

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing. I am a little curious about the fact the he/she interviewed only 4 candidates in R1, which seems to me such a small number.

Ha, good call! I misremembered. Apparently, he only recommended four candidates... two were admitted, two were waitlisted. But he did not recommend other candidates, some of which were waitlisted and some of which were denied. Very sorry for the bad info!

My sister used to interview for northwestern's med school and she told me before I started my interviews that for every 12 candidates she interviewed, she'd recommend something like 4, 1 would get accepted and 2 waitlisted. I wonder if this is some magic ratio that competitive schools try to adhere to.

Thanks, coakleym. If we by this small sample size, it would seem that the admit rate is far below 50% post interview. Can this be right?

Probably not in total. It seems that other interviewers are having better luck getting their recommendations through. Just based off the current BW stats (which I suppose could be inaccurate):

2,697 applications x 23% acceptance rate ~ 620 admits
2,697 applications x 55% interview rate (which we know may fluctuate at Ross) ~ 1483 IVs

~ 620 admits / ~ 1483 IVs = 41.8% acceptance rate after interview.

However, there were 354 waitlisted candidates and 79 admitted applicants from the waitlist. If the ~ 620 figure includes those 79, then the number of pure admits post-IV could actually come down to ~ 36.5%...
