Just wanted to post a nice picture I took this morning of the main campus. You can see the Ross School in the background.

FYI, Michigan hasn't canceled classes since 1978.

Cant wait to get my admit decision and reach Ann Arbor asap... :) :)
I am looking forward to M-Treks as well :D

Oh man, it's gorgeous! Also, you'll be floored by the new building... Out of all the schools I've visited it was the most high-tech and aesthetically appealing.

hi,

I was just comparing placement stats for ross and fuqua and had an interesting observation....while the mean and medians are roughly equal and so are the signing bonuses, however the starting (lowest) salary figures for ross were quite low as compared to fuqua.!!

im just wondering whether this difference is really there (hard to digest) or am i missing an assumption somewhere?? also, you dont think fuqua could play with these stats right?? or can they??

anyways, im also posting this on the fuqua thread so that i can hear both sides of the story. Your comments would be greatly appreciated...

Well this is my opinion - some students who start their own ventures after graduation could most likely be the ones who report a salary of 24k a year or so. It does not mean that some company offered them a job with 24k salary or so. Also it could be possible that some students may go back to their family business and do not necessarily have a formal salary/income number to give away.
Obviously KingReep, Milias and other Rossers would have a better insight

i hope this is just an anomaly and there is no real difference in the values between both schools...coz all the other values are similar, so its weird that the starting salaries should be so different.

You are right. Starting salaries, percentage of students employed by graduation etc are data points which IMO are very very minor in the overall quantification of a school's value/rankings.

I got accepted at Fuqua and am waiting to hear from Ross in addition to Tuck, Columbia and Booth. The salary differentials depend on the industry sectors people land jobs in too. Fuqua is big on healthcare / pharma (outside of IB / Consulting) where salaries are higher than some other industries like CPG (a lot of midwest companies which recruit at Ross). I say that with certainty bcos I have consulted for both these industries. Overall, Fuqua and Ross are equally good schools ... it comes to small intangibles like fit and location etc. If u r interested in traditional career paths like IB / Consulting, the salaries are the same across the board. I have worked for a top-tier consulting firm and salaries post-MBA are kind of flat for the whole class of students recruited for the year irrespective of school. What could be different is the sign-on bonus based on location / the candidate.

I hope this helps.

You're opinion is almost certainly correct. The mean and median numbers are significantly more important than the lowest (or highest) starting salaries. Those are outliers. The low number is probably someone starting a venture or going into some specific non-profit while the high number is going to be an unlikely, special offer for one lucky MBA.

Post-grad placement, mean and median salaries, and major employers seem like somewhat better factors to judge the overall immediate post-grad picture.

Yep Big three consulting are pretty much standard across the board with 120 base 20 signing and 10-20 other guaranteed. The difference for sure is the percentage hired from each of these top schools. Some are obviously more than others.

I'm going to go ahead and speculate on the next wave of interview invites. My guess is Thursday February 3rd at roughly 1pm EST.

What do you think? Over, under or right on the money?

Well, my best guess re: the date for invites has come and gone. Anyone who was for the over is in the money it seems

I took the over FergTron  ... hoping we hear something tomorrow, though. Waiting until next week seems like torture.

I kinda wish there would be SOME kind of update on Soojin's blog. The question re: 2nd batch of interviews is asked 2 times in different comments section with no answer.

I hope its tomorrow, if only so that I know where I stand!

Going by the way R1 invites were trickled out... I assume invites will start going out @ 8 AM tomo morning.. Most of the invites will be out by 5 PM ET and a very few will be sent out next week...

Ofcrs.. too many dangling assumptions in there :).

Ive applied to Only 3 Schools.. ive heard from 1 already. i am in a way loosing my mind while I wait to hear from the other schools!

I can't put myself in the shoes of those who applied to 6/7/8 schools or even worse over 2/3 rounds!

Peace!

Please add me to the R2 roll call. I was invited to interview with the first batch of R2 interviews. Interviewed off-campus with an alum.

Yeah, that would it a lot harder having applied to only three schools all in R2. I've been fortunate enough to have already gotten in to a school I would definately attend in the fall so at this point any future good news is just an added option to my final decision. It definately took some of the edge off. Anyway, best of luck. I'm sure you'll get in to all those schools to which you apply
