as a rule, if yr interviewer is an alum or a student, then it will be a blind interview....with an adcom member, the interviewer will most likely have read yr application and can cross question you on the answers....for US universities, i have never been interviewed by an adcom, so cant tell you the experience...maybe someone who has experienced this first hand would like to share....i have been interviewed at oxford though by an adcom and she knew my application in and out and referenced it at many points during our interaction...

I've been interviewed by an adcom at Kellogg but since it's a self-initiated interview, it is blind and the interviewer just had my resume, which I submitted when I checked in and I'm sure she didn't read my application before that. Just wondering what Ross's policy is. I definitely want to use some of the examples/material from my essays as they are my strongest if the interviewer doesn't know them already.

1) For blind interview you would not have any issues going over same examples
2) For non-blind interviews, you would better prepare few new examples. Apart from your interpersonal skills interviewer will probably be interested in learning more about you. If he has gone through your A, B, C examples from the essays, he would definitely look for more from you. Maybe you can provide new insights into A, B, C.. But, I would definitely be prepared with more examples..

again, while u prepare new examples, dont forget to talk abt yr essays too..coz at some level, they would also be looking at consistency amongst yr answers....if yr answers differ too much, it just shows that you are not focussed or have not thought abt yrself deep enough...

I just visited Ross this weekend and visited Duke about 3 weeks ago. I definitely liked Ann Arbor better than Durham or Chapel Hill, if my decision was only based on where I'd rather live than it would be Michigan for me hands down (assuming I get accepted anyway). I had a really great time there and enjoyed going out with the students, I could definitely see myself fitting in and think I would have more fun there. Duke on the other hand, I feel is better for CPG marketing, which is what I'm going for and I have to keep reminding myself that the main focus here is to get the career I want, not to party  But part of me feels I would probably get the same opportunities regardless, so I should just pick the one I like better. Have a feeling if I get into Ross I'll be going back and forth between the two until the last possible day.
yea, the culture at ross is definitely friendly and fun...ive been admitted at said (oxford) and ross and there is a huge difference between the two in terms of how forthcoming the adcom, alumni, students, etc of ross are....i was really happy with this....the whole atmosphere is very friendly and happy....i luv it for tht...

youve been admitted at duke michmax....how is everyone there?? would you like to comment??

I went out for their super saturday interview weekend and attended the Fuqua Friday event, I did talk to a lot of the students, but it's hard to make a judgement based on that one weekend alone. Everyone was very nice and welcoming, the tight-knit culture was definitely apparent, and I would say everyone seemed pretty happy. They also seemed like very down to earth people. My only hesitancy is I got the sense that their entire lives revolved around the school and each other(I could be wrong), this is not necessarily a bad thing, but I was hoping to not only bond with my classmates and be heavily involved at the school, but also branch out a little more and meet lots of people even outside the mba program. I'm sure there are ways to make this happen, just seems a little more difficult there.

does Ross send official ding letters or is it understood that its a ding
if u arent invited in r2, 3 things can happen now -

1) you could still get an invite before the r2 decision day (very very unlikely, specially since soojin mentioned tht there would be no more invited for r2 now). But the adcom always maintains not to lose hope and that you could still be invited later...

2) you are in the waitlist - but u'll hear this decision only on the decision deadline

3) ding - again, you wont hear this before the decision deadline....

so for all those who didnt get the invite, hang on until the decision deadline to hear the final words....

Thanks for the info

thnx michmax...!! hmm well, ross has the advantage for this i suppose...coz the university is one of the best in the US so there is ample opportunity to interact with people of other disciplines who are equally inspired to do great things..!!

I'm really interested in the Integrated Product Development course at Ross, I read through all the past year's competitions, they work with students from the engineering school and other programs to put a protoype of their product idea together, seems really cool and a good way to network with the other programs. Might be something you would like if your interested entrepreneurship

Hi Everyone,

Does it occur to anyone that this year, especially in R2, the trend is to choose younger aspirants over the more experienced folks? I am seeing this trend in Fuqua invites as well as in Ross invites.

I worked real hard on my essays...and didn't get an interview from either Fuqua or Ross. I'm stunned to say the least. I'm an international applicant and here's my profile:

GMAT: 720, 6.0 (first and only attempt, this year)
GPA: 3.8 (Computer Science and Engineering)
WE: 8 yrs on matriculation (4 yrs of international experience at Fortune 500 client locations), IT consulting, IT strategy and Project Management with Fortune 1000 MNC
Career Progression: Consistent
EC: Decent - was regular member of University Sports Team; co-founded a non-profit organization for children, committee member of Corporate Social Welfare group.
Referee: 1) Client Manager at Fortune 500 client organization, 2) Direct Supervisor
Target Concentration - Business Strategy Consulting.

I'm looking for holes (must be big ones in there) in my profile to justify the dings.
Do you think years of experience actually went against me? I am eager to know your opinion.

Thanks

There are many factors.. Trust me when I say that.. I too have been waiting forever this year now.. interviews, WLs, dings.. all seen now.. from best of places.. so, all I can say is tht u neva know wht actually works.. I have dinged w/o interview from one place which I was using as safety school.. I am still waiting on other similar schools whereas I got one from Ross in first batch.. so it is totally dependent on fit and what each school looks for.. find tht out through various sources - class visits, guides, websites, mba tours etc etc etc.. find your fit and then evaluate your profile.. it can be anything.. even ur essays..

It's always tough to identify *one* thing, but I am more "seasoned" than the typical application like you, even more so probably. I have 9 years of WE + a graduate degree. It seems like despite all of the anti-discrimination rules that schools must abide by, admissions is still an area that schools can discriminate by simply coloring it as something else.

I would actually disagree ... Duke has a lot of interdisciplinary resources. I got accepted to the HSM program at Duke and its probably one of the most interdisciplinary experiences. You have a very strong law school, a strong med school, a strong policy school, a decent engg school ... Duke is doing a lot more than Ross to enhance its international brands and is one of the truly global MBAs. However Ross is better for recruiting in areas like consulting. I have a similar decision to make as you ... as I have been accepted to Duke and Tuck and am in the interview process with Ross.

Did any one of you who attended the super saturday get an email from Ross today about feedback for the event? Is it generic email?
