World Education Services...its a company in-charge of doing the background educational verification for Ross admits...

Oh, maybe it's for internationals. I think all I was requested to do was have the schools I have degrees from send an official copy of my transcripts to Ross.

thats great info.
should we expect an email from WES, similar to HireRight, about education verification? or do they simply process the verification without informing you?
Thx!
well, you may or may not receive an email about WES. Some people have, and some not. There is some info about WES in your admit letter which can get you started. For more details, you can contact the Adcom dirctly.

PS - If you're an admit, are you active on the google/ FB groups?? we do have a lot of conversation regarding these topics and how to go about them. You may find it useful.

Doing my homework to decide between Michigan and Duke. Can anyone shed some light on what companies consider Ross a "core" school? And for that matter, what does "core" really mean?

What industry are you talking about? Including that piece of information will help facilitate a conversation on this much better (e.g. banking, consulting, healthcare, ...etc). :)

Actually, I want it across all industries if possible. Plus, it'll help out the whole community to collect that information.

I too am interested in this information, especially for different functions within investment banking (S&T, IB, IM, etc.) and consulting (corporate strategy, operations, healthcare, etc.). Any info would be awesome.

Yes, I know. I've read the employment reports. I'm looking for companies who consider Ross a "core" school. During my trips to schools, students often talk about how this or that company now considers their school a "core" school, but I haven't been able to find this information on the web or in the employment reports. Was hoping some current students could pass along this information to all of us.

I think it's euphemistic corporate speak for schools that a certain company always recruits at. If you look at which companies hire a lot of graduates, you'll get a pretty good idea of which companies consider Ross a "core" school.

If you'd like to know more, try searching some of the corporate websites. Accenture actually has a link from its MBA hiring page that introduces prospective consultants to MBA hiring reps for six schools--including Ross.

Ross's biggest strengths seem to be in consulting, investment banking, and marketing. How does Ross fare within the S&T and investment management functions within Investment Banking? It's hard to find statistics in these two functional areas. Any extra insight would be awesome here.

Depending on the program you received the scholarship from, you may be able to talk to adcom and negotiate a scholarship. I know students who were able to do this, and also know others where this didn't work. Definitely talk to adcom since it doesn't hurt to do so.

This is a question for R1 admits. I have been accepted to the Tauber program and have heard sometimes additional money is offered in the official letter that comes in the binder. I was wondering if this rumor is true. I just got accepted to my #2 choice with a nice fellowship offer, but I am 90% sure the money can't sway me. I am however pretty curious if many people get financial offers outside of the admit call. Thanks.

Becky
hi becky. well, if you are in doubt and cant wait until the admit binder reaches you, then contact the member of the adcom who sent you the admit mail and ask them about the scholarship info. in most cases, they will let u know of the amount offered and that should help you.

I'm in a similar position. Got a significant scholarship from a school other than Ross, but haven't heard anything from Ross about scholarship. Any idea when we're supposed to get the admit binders?

From what I have seen (I've been here 3 years), Ross' key strengths are Consulting, Marketing, General Management and to a lesser extent, banking. While the first three have been strong points at Ross for more than a few years now, banking recruiting has slowly been improving over the past couple of years, especially in the middle-market and boutique space. Another overlooked area where Ross is particularly strong is Corporate Finance positions (my guess is that because these positions get lumped in with "General Management"). A fair number of Ross graduates go into these positions at firms such as JPM, Barclay's AMEX, Amazon, MSFT, etc.

Now, S&T and Investment Management is not one of Ross' area of strengths. Ross has fantastic facilities and resources for people to learn the skills, including our own student run hedge fund (which I served on for a year) and a full-fledged trading desk. However, it appears that most banks that recruit for S&T prefer recruiting the BBAs. One of my good friends (and classmate) was a trader at a BB before he came to Ross. And from what he tells me, the banks prefer the young guys because the MBAs who join trading desks do pretty much what the undergrads do. So desks like to promote people who have developed the skills and experience rather than hire an MBA who has yet to "get his boots dirty", so to speak. Even a traditional finance powerhouse such as Wharton sends just 10 - 15 people into Sales and Trading every year. One outlier is Booth - they are consistently strong in their sales and trading recruiting. All said and done, recruiting for Sales and Trading from Ross will largely be a self-directed effort. I personally know two people who made it there from Ross, but it's not an easy hill to climb.
