Congrats to all the recent admits! It's been over 2 months since I got the call and I'm still giddy over it. I look forward to meeting everyone in AA in the fall. On a side note, I just registered for my Mtrek today! Go blue!

Which one did you choose?

You rank 5 trips in order of preference - I did Switzerland as my 1st (skiing in the Alps), followed by Spain, Greece, Czech Republic, and Costa Rica.

@mreevit - orientation basically starts in late August for RLI, and then classes start beginning of September. There's an accounting waiver course in early August that I plan on taking so I'll be up there around Aug. 1.

Is MTrek highly recommended? It's also very pricey, but I'm wondering if the cost of having new friendships/networks early and a great travel experience is worth the premium. We have MAP after all, which might give us just as good travel experiences as well.

Yeah I'm taking the course from the 8th to the 11th, then all the trips I signed up for get back on the 22nd. Soooo I figure I might as well pull an all-nighter for my first grad school exam.

And yeah everyone I've talked to highly recommends doing an Mtrek. It seems pricey (although for 10 days it's really not bad), and all the current students I met at GBR who didn't go on it b/c of the price ended up regretting it.

It's been VERY highly recommended by every single student I've heard talk about it, and the few students I've talked to who didn't go said they really regretted it. Many students have mentioned that their MTrek group gets together throughout the two years at Ross, so you end up developing pretty lasting bonds. They are pretty pricey, but there are some trips that are on the more reasonable end, especially the domestic ones.

You're greatest asset coming out of b-school will be your network aka friends. To be honest, once you start working to pay back the loans, time will be the limiting reagent (sorry for the chemistry reference). Try to think of the experiences as assets that will never lose its value. It's easier to get through a rough patch in life if you have a lot of good memories to pull from and a great support system.

First of all congratz to everyone who got admitted...

I agree that while the MTREK price tag may seems high, the experience is worthwhile (coming from pretty much everyone I have talked to). Going to a vacation trip is one thing and going to a trip with a bunch of fellow classmates who share similar goal(s) as you is a whole different story. Not to mention the benefit of relaxing yourself before the intensive school year starts (again).
I just wish I get the happy call soon enough for me to apply to it.

Good point. Awesome reference since I used to be pre-med, haha. Looks like I'll have to beg few friends/parents/family for some traveling $.

Please forgive a punch drunk former waitlister. Does Ross have a pre-term session beyond the accounting thingy mentioned earlier? Or do folks focus prefer Treks over math?

The only thing all the MTreks interfere with is the second session of the accounting waiver course, so you'd have to take the first session from Aug 8-11 (if you want to take it at all). Otherwise, all pre-term stuff is compatible with MTreks. More info here: https://webuser.bus.umich.edu/Organizati ... Question20

Thanks, next question.
Who thinks driving from the Glacier (Missoula-ish) Trek (21st) to Ann Arbor in time for QSW (23rd) because one's stuff is in one's pickup one drove from one's home in Portland on the way to school is the worst idea yet?

That sounds pretty brutal. Not sure what your background is, but QSW is optional and only about half the class takes it. So if you're feeling reasonably confident in your quant skills, you can skip it and stretch out the drive a bit.

Also, you might get more responses to your post-admissions questions in the admitted students thread (which could use some more activity!): admitted-to-ross-class-of-2013-thread-110564.html
