Current situation in the US is not good period. consulting hiring overall is not good. Although consulting does sponsor H1B in general it doesnt sponsor much compared to candidates who go into finance. I think if you’re looking for MBB you would actually really network and fight for it less so if its Big4. There are a few 1st years that have internships for mbb.
Tuck is a better school, and much better to consulting roles as well. with a bigger overall class size with better networks. You will still face less headwinds, but potentially less problems landing your role. However potentially tuck might give you less scholarship compared to Simon.
I’m not sure what your ultimate end goal is post consulting. So I really cant help with additional information. Hypothetically if you really want to get into consulting theres always the option of applying as a direct experience hire.
My 2 cents
Consulting hiring is need-based. It really reflects the need of the market. Right now, there isn’t much happening in the market
In 2022-23, there was a lot of Strategy consulting hiring because the market were undergoing massive restructuring and layoffs (Think of FAANG layoffs)
Now that that cycle is over, consulting hiring has slowed (I spoke to ad com members recently and they are seeing this happen)
Consulting used to be 30 odd percent of most good schools, and it’s going down right now!
Consulting firms usually don’t sponsor(Not talking about MBB) and even if they do, many roles do not fall under STEM (think of Strategy consulting, or marketing or general management) and you will not be able to even use OPT if your job is not categorized as STEM.
I would be very cautious and flexible if my target was to get into consulting.
There are some great schools known for consulting and unfortunately Simon is not one of them
International students really love Simon (I was one of them too lol), but I have realized that Simon is great only if you want to get into Finance.
And the last employment report was really horrific as well.
Again, I am not trying to scare anyone. It’s the opposite. You need to motivate yourself and work hard during the course!
I do believe that people can be successful in this environment as well, but I would look at these factors before deciding my goals and colleges!
Hope it helps
