Hmmmmm I have a friend currently at Stanford but unsure whether to ask them to put in a good word for me. I mean what does this exactly involve them doing.....?
"ahhhh that Noodles he is a good egg you should accept him".
I feel slightly uncomfortable about the idea of doing this but what have others done?
I feel the same way. What I heard is that it's helpful to have them do alongside normal recs prior to deadline to be considered part of file. This is all speculation though from someone who neither goes there nor has interviewed...so who knows?!?
I was just curious if many people had done that and if so if it's highly correlated with interview invite.
I think if they know you well and have worked alongside you or something similar then it probably helps a great deal for them to write an actual recommendation.
If they are just a friend...........then I dunno.........
Just as a data point: I know a girl (a very qualified one at that) who had an alum submit something (not sure about the details) with her app. She did not get an interview invite.

Ok - I have written to one of the prof's that I once had lunch with (I know, clutching at straws!) and a current student that I used to work with to try and drum up some interest in my app. Will keep you posted on whether this is a successful process.
Just got an invite! I am SO relieved - and SHOCKED because I had written it off at this point. Sounds like they're still coming out though, so don't give up hope!
And yes, the invitation does require you to complete your interview within 10 days of receiving the email, so it all happens quite quickly.

Congrats! Awesome achievement.
Do you mind sharing when you submitted your application?

Stats
male, india, a little less than 26, 2 years in IT, non-profit, no international experience, avg gpa, avg undergrad school, gmat 710, single and still looking submitted coupla hours before the deadline
I submitted my app 2 days early on 9/5. However, that doesn't seem to be a factor since I know a girl who submitted on the deadline and received an invite some time ago... I'm not sure how they order the review of the applications.
My background is 25 year old female in PE. Very few of my (very qualified) friends have heard from Stanford yet. We were beginning to think Stanford was going without the PE crowd this year...
cool! mind sharing your profile? How to prepare for interviews? I think clearadmit has a wiki with interview questions etc., plenty of other resources also on the net. From what I have heard, its nothing out of ordinary...just need to be clear on your reasons for mba, stanford, etc.
