Has anyone from Middle-east got an invite so far? Looks like chances of getting an invite are getting slimmer every passing day

Am in the Middle East too. Nothing yet. Another person on the board mentioned that they hadn't heard of anyone eithier

What your profile EDJ? Even I haven't heard of a single guy from ME who got an interview invite!

Hi,
I know that the chances are close to 0 at this point, but did any of you / of the people you know in the Middle-East get an invite ?

I am also an R1 applicant from Bangalore...Reliance finalist ...got interviewed last year.. but didn't hear anything this time around (inspite of having a much stronger profile this time) and I have decided to concentrate on R2 applications starting this weekend.

Quote:

I thought after - much higher than average gmat , PE & IB solid work ex, international work exposure and descent eca etc I can hope..but I am humbled to see many smart people on this forum..now i think I should move on .For me this was my last and final attempt :(

Yep. I'm also a reapplicant who interviewed last year. Thought I shored up some of my weak areas this year, expanded my EC's that aligned with my passions, killed it at work, got promoted and leadership positions... And no interview this year. Disappointing, but my last year experience has really helped me shrug it off.

This school is ridiculously selective and it's not all logical either. I know some kids there who are impressive in some ways and not at all in others, same as at any school. No doubt on the average the stanford kids are smarter and more impressive, but you make your own experience at whatever school you get into. Life goes on. Everyone returns to zero immediately upon graduating anyway, and the rest of life is judged on what you actually accomplish.

Hey lostphoton

I'd say that your profile is great given that you were interviewed last year. Getting an invite proves that. Also u've been a reliance finalist twice also speaks about your potential.
Don't let this year's Stan result bog you down. Good luck with your apps.

I would not keep any hopes for an invite at this point of time. It might happen for 1 or 2 ... (as it does most years).. but that is it...

It's really tough.. but guess it's wise to move on at this stage. staying hopeful will only affect your R2 apps..

Cheers,

Congrats all who've received invites... hope you all convert them. And to those who haven't yet, i'm sure you guys will have better luck with other apps. It's bound to work out for all, only a question of timing i believe.

I've been working on my Stanford app since Sept, although not regularly, but by now I've reached a stage where I feel I'm overthinking everything. Hoping to get some guidance from others here who've been through the Stanford app process themselves.

For their career aspirations --- how crazy can we afford to get here? I don't think Stanford's like other b-schools when it comes to judging the career goals (although I could easily be wrong). From the sense i got when interacting with the students, and the adcom during info sessions, Stanford is fairly open to career changers (more so than others), and doesn't ridicule those who want a complete change of career -- which is why they ask you your dreams and aspirations rather than your 'career goals' per se. Part of it stems from its ideologies, and part from its confidence and belief that a Stanford MBA graduate can be successful in whatever he does in life. Is this a reasonable assessment? Would be great to hear from any current student / alum from GSB.

I have long harbored an idea for a high-tech startup, coming from an engineering background, but the slight issue is that I've been a banker for the past 2 years... so i'm wondering if it's a wise thing to talk about tech-entrepreneurship in my career aspirations even though I'm highly passionate about it (and have laid some groundwork for it outside of my job), and I'm certain that that is something I would like to pursue post MBA.

Does anyone know the process for releasing decisions? Ive heard some schools call all candidates they interviewed and accepted individually a few days before decision day. Then decision day (dec 15th in this case) is for email notifications of waitlisted and not accepted.

any ideas?

Good luck to all

I think that if you have done the research and can show that you are qualified to create such a startup by providing the details and reasons why you think it would be successful, you should write about it. I can't say anything about whether Stanford has a soft spot for career changers, but based on my experience with apps, I feel that you can write about it if you can prove it - why you're qualified, why your startup will succeed, etc. Good luck!

R2 applicant here, currently working at a PE/hedge fund, had a question about the peer letter of rec --

I'm the only associate in the group I currently work in so there isn't anyone I could go to at my current position for a peer rec. The three options I'm weighing are

1) choosing a peer from my investment banking days (2+ years ago, don't know what they can actually say about my leadership skills)
2) choosing a peer from my recent volunteer work (which is a bit skimpy, can fill a whole letter but won't have multiple examples)
3) choosing my vice president of an extracurricular club that I was the president of in college (there's a bit of hierarchy here so not sure if this qualifies, but I think he could speak best to my abilities/strengths)

I think Stanford prefers the rec to be a peer from the last 3 years so I'm hesitant to use the college club VP...any thoughts on which way I should go with this?

Lostphoton,

I'm very sad for you and the rest of our fellow re-applicants. My fingers are crossed that HBS comes through for you. GOOD LUCK! Please cross your fingers for me!

Does anyone have any creative ways to distract oneself from thinking about tomorrow and Wednesday? My productivity at work has dropped to zero. And my gut changes about every five minutes, from feeling like I'm good enought to get in this time around, to feeling like I was born a loser...

A question to allow of you who have already applied in R1, or are writing R2 responses right now - I know Stanford really wants introspection and getting personal, but how personal is too personal? Would it be construed as inappropriate if I wrote about a death?
