I saw this on s2s boards from a reapplicant:

20205.51 in reply to 20205.50

I submitted on 9/30, and still says "submitted". I am a rapplicant, and If I remember correctly, the status will change and say something similar to "under review" once the application enters the review process. We still have till late January to hear back from HBS, unlike Wharton, which is making me nervous with only 7 days left!

Is that true???????????????

It's official. Dee just posted on the HBS blog that they are at the half-way mark with the interview invitation process.

It looks as if we are roughly halfway through the invitation process. We will continue to issue invitations up to and including the notification date, which is January 16, 2008.

Why do the interview invitations slow down from this point on?

In the beginning of each round, all of our resources are deployed to reading applications. Once we begin the actual interviewing (interviews began on November 5) we cannot read at the same pace — hence the slowing down of the invitation rate.

To be clear, there is no order or pattern to which applications are read first.

We hope that bulletins like this are helpful and we sincerely appreciate your patience in this process.

Chances are, some of our apps may not even be read at this point.

I personally don't think this is true. Anyway, forcefeed collegesenior, could you please throw some light on this?

I don't think that's the case. That would be inconsistent with the community values.

If I remember correctly from last year, the stages for my app were: submitted --> your decision is ready. Everything in between (basically the interview) was e-mailed to me.
