Not sure if it can make you feel any better, but I read it was one of the common mistakes people make on their essays. Good luck to you anyways!

Thanks for the support. Time's almost up though, 2 more days to go. I'm not holding my breath anymore....... but there's always that tiny sliver of hope...... against all logical arguments.
did you interview and are waiting for the decision or do you mean you never heard back after submitting the app, period? i heard of someone getting into ucla before even though they made that same common mistake...hope that helps!
