I live on the East Coast and did my interview with a local alum. I eventually got in and I am yet to visit Anderson. However, I will definitely do it soon. I am not signing my debt-free life away without checking the product carefully first. ;) There is an added benifit in doing your interview on campus because you will get a sense of the culture of the school but I do not think it's advantageous for admission purposes.

Agreed--but if you're interviewing with several schools scattered across the country, I think it makes more sense to save your visits until you have a decision to make amongst the schools that have accepted you. You'll get a better feel for the school's culture at something like A-Days than you will at a quick visit for an interview.

Visiting prior to applying has its benefits too, since it can save you from wasting time on an application for a school you don't like. But once you've already applied, a visit has limited benefits unless you want to impress your interviewer with your first-hand knowledge of the school.

Thanks for the advice guys, but I decided to do on campus. I only applied to Anderson and Stern so I figured I might as well go out there. Any more I can say about why Anderson / why LA will really help since I've never been there.

The weather here is freaking awesome. ~65F during the winter, ~75F during the summer.

Just got an interview invite! Submitted on 5th minutes before deadline.
I would really appreciate any recommendations on on campus Vs off campus interviews. Since I'm in LA, it definitely wouldn't be a problem to do it on campus..

If you're in LA, I would recommend on-campus unless it doesn't work for your schedule. From what I remember for R1 they didn't offer on-campus interviews on weekends, and I would have had a hard time making it there for one on a weekday even though I'm only about 2 hours away from UCLA. I had just visited Anderson the previous week so I didn't see any urgent need for another trip there just for a half hour interview.

So I did mine off-campus with an alum, and it went well. Alums can sometimes be a mixed bag, whereas with AdCom/student interviews you're more likely to get a very vanilla interview. AdCom obviously didn't penalize me too much for choosing off-campus though so it's really up to you.

Yeah, that was pretty much my thought process too. I scheduled it for next week early in the morning so I can still get to work right after. Living within 10 mins of UCLA definitely helps! :)

And thanks for you inputs emont! Ive read a lot of your posts elsewhere and you've been really helpful with some good pointers. Btw, with an admit from both Haas and Anderson, I'm curious to know what you're leaning towards..

mm0815 and i22,
congrats to both of you!
Are you planning to do it on campus or with an alum?

Thanks. Congrats to you too. I'll probably do off campus since I'm in Detroit. I haven't visited the school yet though. I guess I'll wait to see if I get in. Do you think there's any benefit to doing on campus?

Thanks, vivekrb. I'm doing it on campus... Good luck!!!

Good luck to you too i22!

How much time did they give you between offering the interview and scheduling it? I just had an elective surgical process done, and I'm afraid I'm gonna be out of commission for at least 1-2 weeks.

I got the offer yesterday (1/31) and could choose on campus interviews on dates between 2/3 and 2/24. I'm doing it on 2/14.

For off campus, the e-mail says "To schedule an off-campus appointment, please reply to this email with your full name and preferred interview city/country. We will respond to your request within 2 business days."

I'm doing off campus and they emailed me back within a few hours even though it said two business days. Once I got my match, they asked that the interview be scheduled within 10 days.

Since I chose to do it on campus, I could choose from a list of dates and times all the way until 24 of Feb.
So that should give you enough time. In a worst case scenario, if you can explain your circumstances to the adcom, I'm sure it shouldn't be a problem.

I just accepted my Haas offer today, so I'll probably log in to my account and decline Anderson as soon as I get a 100% confirmation from Haas.

So that means there's at least one more spot opening up for a WLer or R2 applicant....

Thats great. Congratulations to you! Cant wait for the day when I will be accepting an offer myself and be done with this exhausting process :)

To R1 folks or those R2 who have already interviewed:

Does anyone know if we get an e-mail letting us know (1) the name of the interviewer and (2) whether he/she is a student or adcom staff BEFORE we show up for an on-campus interview?

Thanks!!!

I am a round 1 waitlister at UCLA with an offer from a similar school (more costly, yet preferrable in my case). Any advice on the decision at this point would be greatly helpful.

My cousin applied to UCLA a couple years ago and got waitlisted. They kept pushing the decision back several times, so around May she finally took herself off the waitlist and went to UW (Foster) instead.

If it's preferable, go there. That would be my advice even if you evetually get in off the waitlist at Anderson. Those extra $10-20k should not be a make-or-break consideration in the grand scheme of things.
