Hi All,
I have an admit from UCI Merage, and waiting for decision from BC, BU and Fisher. I wont dive into post MBA goals but would want to understand in general, how these schools stand out. Being an international candidate, I have limited avenues to collect information.
I have talked to quite a few people and the responses are varied to a great extent.
Here are feedback that I reecived:
1) Going to a school thats ranked lower reduces my employability chances, because of international tag. One of my friend, currently at McCombs, said there were 120 companies scheduled to visit, but he was eligible for only 8 of them. To be blunt, one should target nothing more than top 30 institutes to have a better chance.
2) Not having 700 on GMAT affects your chances of getting into consulting.
3) Presence of schools such as UCLA, USC around UCI, and Harvard, MIT around BU, BC will have negative impact since employers would want to hire graduates from better schools.
4) To add to all this, recent political developments have created somoe sort of uncertainity.
At the same time, people have also told me that these things dont matter and it all depends on the candidate. Coming from a large applicant pool (Indian, IT, Male), will have its own consequences.
I do understand that once I get into a school, it all depends on how well I utilize the resources and use my time to network and work hard to stay on top. But these pointers seem scary if they are true to some extent.
Any suggestions would be apprciated.
Thanks in advance.
