I just checked my status & have received an invite to interview. The options are Feb 20-22, 26-29 & Mar 3. Anyone else from here who is interviewing on campus - what date did you pick? I would be interested in meeting up. Of course, have to look for a good airfare first.

nervous,

Nope. Darden is the only school I could not visit. A good friend is an 2006 alum, so I talked to him before applying. Unfortunately, I am short on vacation so I'll be visiting only for a day (28th).

Thanks nc & dosa!

I see three admits from R1 - VirtualM, lanter1 & Iwannabe. Are you guys still around here? I could use any information from your interview experiences.

Svrider and others who received an interview invite,

I scheduled my interview in the later part of the day, just so I could experience and get comfortable with the energy of the people at Darden. The lunch with faculty was a great experience. The interviewer was not a student (an adcom member) and she made me very comfortable right from the start. The interview, as expected, was a blind interview and I was asked to talk about my story in 45 minutes, focusing particularly on ‘why’ I did the things I did. Although, a current student friend of mine told me that a back and forth interview with standard questions is definitely a possibility.

I started off talking in reverse chronological order but she soon had me jumping around, basically guiding the flow, although the main question was the same. The specific questions she asked me later were: Why MBA? Why Darden? Outside of work what have you done for the community?

In all, I think I did alright but the clincher was why I wanted to be at Darden. I think this carries a lot of weightage and giving specific examples of what you will benefit from at Darden is a good strategy. I also mentioned a few current students during the interview and she seemed to know them well.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I had a choice & picked a slot at 1.30pm with the same thought that I could interact with students & faculty first. Unfortunately, there are no classes around that time to experience the Darden case approach. Is there a reason why you started off with your current job first?
Since this is my first visit, I haven't talked to any students as yet. But I do know an alumni very well & met several others at a local info session. Darden's info session was the only one where alumni outnumbered visitors!

My bad. I wanted to say I started in the chronological order.

I took my interview in December and there were no classes then too. However, I did attend a class on Accounting when I visited in November last year. But I felt that Case Method wasn't the best learning method for that topic. This reminds me that 'What are the strengths and weaknesses of the Case Method?' is a question that has been asked before. Anyways, I am sure there will be plenty of students on the campus when you visit. Try to get as much insight as you can from them and from the faculty during the luncheon.

Also, the energy and tone you set in the first 10 minutes is extremely important as it forms their impression of how you'll participate and perform in the classroom with case method (this statement comes from an undoubtable source). Good luck!
