Saniko - I am a fellow longhorn. I was a BHP / Finance major and graduated in 2004. Great school and program. You are right, lots of BHPers have gone on to Stanford. I'm in close contact with one there now.

Here you go... first my original interview post, then a snippet from my post-admit "debrief" reflecting on the interview.

--------------------------------
Met with a recent grad in a nearby Starbucks. Unbelievably nice guy. It was essentially a conversation about my goals, and how I thought Stanford would help me achieve them.

He started off by introducing himself and talked a little bit about what he loved about Stanford.

He then asked me to talk about my experiences and what shaped me and my goals... starting with childhood! That threw me off for a second, but I went ahead and talked about my family, music activities, and schooling. When I started to talk about what motivated me to enter medicine in the first place, the interview really took a more conversational turn, eventually leading to the obvious questions about why MBA and why Stanford. Whenever I mentioned an experience or a goal, he would either ask a follow up or tell me how Stanford could help achieve that goal. It really was a conversation... I don't remember any specific questions he asked.

As that conversation wound down, he leafed through a notebook he had brought and said, "Well, I should ask at least one standard interview question. Tell me about a time you failed, and what you learned from it." I answered it, and he seemed satisfied with the response. Then I got to ask him some questions about his experience at the GSB. He was incredibly enthusiastic and spoke at length. In all, interview lasted ~45 minutes.

---------------------------------

I don’t think I’ve heard of a really nasty/confrontational Stanford GSB interview. Most take a pleasant and conversational tone. You should have a clear idea of why you need an MBA (no different from any other interview), and you do have to have a pretty clear idea of “Why Stanford." My interviewer pressed me a bit on those points. When I was able to answer them, he switched into selling mode. He was incredibly enthusiastic and did a great job getting me excited about the GSB… I walked out of the interview realizing that Stanford had clearly moved up to no. 1 on my personal B-school list.

Anyone has heard from Stanford? I have already had interview invites from HBS and Wharton, but no word from SGSB...

After reading bsd_lover's comment, I started thinking who our current admissions king was. In R1, terry12 applied to Harvard, Stanford, Wharton and MIT. And except for Harvard, he got admits everywhere (What was Harvard thinking?). Yes .. even in the dreaded Stanford. So elhajui has to beat terry12's record.

All the best elhajui! Aah .. the embarrassment of the riches! :P

I have a friend who scored H / W / S / Sloan R1. Even if I get H / W / S, it won't nearly as awesome. :-)

Just had my Stanford interview...It lasted over 1.5 hour! The interview shot a bunch of tough, but interesting questions (I won't share them here, as I view this as unethical) for 40 minutes, then we had a 45 minutes conversation about life, business and everything in between. I hate to sound cheesy, but the best (and in my opinion only) way to prepare is to KNOW YOURSELF. I think interviewers are screening primarily for personality and fit with the small program.

Anyway, good luck to everyone!

It's probably been quiet because everyone is bracing for what's coming. Ding.
