This is the 20 June update on the waitlist process. We are grateful for your continued cooperation and patience in remaining on the Stanford MBA Program waitlist.
Although we hoped to admit one or two candidates today, we were unable to do so.
We still believe we'll be able to make an offer this summer. We are less optimistic than we were at the 6 June update about making two offers - and it is unlikely that we'll be able to make more than two offers. I am sorry that I cannot bring you better news.
We made no offers today because our incoming class count exceeds our incoming class target. As of this morning, we have 374 incoming students for the MBA Class of 2010. The dean's office set the incoming class target at 369-372 students.
If the class count falls below 372 students before 14 August, we will admit from the waitlist to maintain a class size of 372.
The class count may fall for a few reasons. Over the summer, a handful of incoming students may encounter personal issues or receive career opportunities that preclude them from enrolling (Admission Offices call this phenomenon 'summer melt'). In addition, incoming students must complete pre-matriculation requirements by 13 August to be allowed to enroll in the fall. Because the factors affecting enrollment decisions are personal, however, we cannot predict if or when 'melt' will occur. Like you, we wait patiently.
A few candidates withdrew from the waitlist over the last week - and if you have another compelling option, we encourage you to move forward with your plans. As of this morning, there are about 45 candidates remaining under consideration. If there is an opening in the Class of 2010, we will offer it to the candidate who best complements the incoming class.
We will provide the penultimate update on 17 July, and the final update on 14 August. We will close the waitlist in September.
